why does it have to be brass? Can it be steel? Galvanised or otherwise? Can it be some other type of metal?

I stay in the UK on a small island. Our ironmonger wont have anything like that. Is it the internet for me? Cos it looks like postage would be more than the item.....

And where do I get the rod?
