Personally, I prefer anything natural as well for scales. Anything aluminum, anodized or not, to me just says cheap. The people that make the chainmaille pieces at the Renn Fest use either brass or aluminum. Now give me stainless steel, titanium or sterling silver!! That makes me drool.
BTW, I haven't gotten the nerve to use a straight on myself yet.
