Microscope porn
Screwing around with the scope at work today:
Merkur DE blade at 200x
Feather DE blade at 200x:
W&B Wedge straight honed by yours truly, at 200x
Just thought it was interesting to see the differences.

Jeebus, you polished that W&B something fierce!
What hone progression and polishing steps did you use, and how is the shave?

Thanks for the pics! On the first two pics of the DE blades, are we seeing the micro-bevel rather than the ONLY bevel? Does that make sense? I have some DEs that I put under the scope, and those blades actually have a TRIPLE bevel.

Progression:
Hand sanding (EBay restore): 180 grit, 220 grit, 400 grit, 600 grit. Diamond hone 1200 grit, diamond lapping film 9um, 6um, 3um, 1um, Crome Ox pasted hanging canvas strop, TM apprentice strop backside, and then front side.
Shaved with it just this morning on two days growth......
Mmmmmm....MMMM! Mighty smooth!

The pics are all the same scale. The Feather, I believe, we are seeing the final two bevels at this magnification, and on the W&B, the bevel is 1/8" wide so we are only seeing a small portion of it!

The razor is 100 years old, I figure posting pics of the edge from a couple of days back isn't gonna make it go stale or something...
