chinese 12k deal
My beautiful pregnant wife just bought me a chinese 12K from woodcraft, and it's the standard 30.99 for the 12k. BUT, I googled to look for coupon codes, and apparently woodcraft has coupon codes all the time. Right now the code is 82008 - the month followed by the year. I have no idea if this is the pattern for every month.
The current coupon allows 15 bucks off of an order of 50 dollars or more, so you need to find 20 bucks worth of stuff to add to the 12k. I found a granite reference plate like you would find in a machine shop measuring 9 x 12 x 2, and it was on sale for 20 bucks - it even comes with a certificate of flatness. So, that puts me at the 50 dollar mark. (plus - I can use it with sandpaper to flatten the 12k!)
The 12k alone with shipping comes to just shy of 40 bucks, and with the coupon the 12k plus the granite reference plate comes to 45 bucks - with shipping included.
F
This deal is also good for anything over 50 bucks, so if you've been wanting any 8 x 3 DMT plates, they are normally 55 bucks, so with the coupon that gives you a DMT plate for 40 bucks, and that's the best price online!

Stuff arrived today.
Granite flat plate (damn heavy!) comes with a nice certificate of flatness (my plate is a bit high in the middle...by 2microns! ). Bring on the diamond lapping film!
Also got the Chinese 12k, lapped it up on our industrial grade polishing machine to 600 grit. Nice and smooth. Now it sticks to glass like a bug sticks to a windshield . Can't wait to try it out...
And the camella oil was quite a bit larger than I had anticipated. It'll keep my razors happy for a long time!
Yeah Woodcraft!

I'm glad you were able to make use of the deal, seraphim. I got pretty much what you did minus the oil. That granite plate is a monster, isn't it? I used sandpaper to lap my 12k with, and it worked great. I checked some glass that I've been using for newspaper stropping, and it's just as perceptibly flat as the plate, and the granite tile I bought at lowes for 5 bucks checks to be pretty dang flat, too.
So, for all you guys wanting a granite reference plate but don't have any where to put it or the $$ to pony up, just go get a 12" square granite tile from lowes. It's 5 bucks and does just as well as the flat reference slab. It just doesn't come with a certificate!

While they aren't everywhere, do check the store locations on woodcraft. I only knew there was one wood store in town...Low and behold, there's a woodcraft too. I'm not going to be able to use the $15 off, but I won't pay shipping either. ***Cheers***
