How I cut my Shapton...
...Noooo, it wasn't a Shapton Ceramic on Glass! It was my brand new Shapton Professional 1k hone. Got it this morning in the mail ($47 shipped) and proceeded to cut that baby in two! First I used my calipers and measured the width all along the hone. Divided that by two and scribed a line down the center. I used my metal cutting bandsaw for the cut. I'd have to say it dulls the hell out of the blade's teeth but the blade I had on the machine was what it came with- terrible blade. I had recently bought 3 new blades too- very good ones, so I didn't care about destroying this blade. The going was slow because of the dulling but it did the job with very little kerf. Afterwards I lapped the edges, top, and bottom enough to clean them .Anyway, here are some shots along with my previously cut Norton 4k/8k.

Sorry, I'm not taking on any more "projects". That means no scales, restoration, honing, you name it. Look for my custom razors in the future though!

I'm considering buying a Shapton 1000 and cutting it up too. I don't suppose you'd sell me half?
Nice work.

No, sorry! I'm keeping both halves so when one gets worn out I won't have to do it all over again.

Hmmmm, I do believe that is actually against SRP rules I need to double check, but there might be a subsection in the Rule book that says that you must sell the other half, but it must only be sold to me

Regardless of moderators' rules, regulations, or even hopes, it's my opinion that if the stone were worth spit that bandsaw blade should have been rendered into a thin, shiny strip of steel with two smooth edges; that means certainly with no teeth - not even knobs.

It basically was by the time I finished the cut. Then again it was a cheap harbor freight blade that came on the machine. My new blades are muuuuch nicer lasting 10x longer than an average blade. I immediately changed the blade following the cut. By the way it took a WHILE once the teeth were all worn down!
