I don't have any experience in that arena. Having said that, one of the considerations would be the aftershave you use. The scent from TOBS MR Taylor does not last long, which is fine with me since I don't wear cologne. The Brummel AS lasts longer for me (a few hours).

First, anything you want to do is fine. That said, yes, I usually use a/s splash followed by a cologne or EDT - I don't put cologne on my face though. I do try to use scents that compliment one another.

You can but I wouldn't unless they were the same scent. If I want to use a cologne after shaving I will spash on some witchhazel first, which doesn't really have a scent then use the cologne. Or just use the cologne and forget the after shave. The only real difference is the amount is the amount of essecial oils (the scent maker) after shave has less than cologne.

After shave balm(you choice), after shave then EDT.Try to use the same scents in the after shave and the EDT.If you wear a scent that is not very strong, using the after shave and then the EDT or cologne will let the scent linger a little longer. Works for me.

I sometimes use an unscented aftershave balm (like the one made by AOS) followed by my cologne. I usually try to use first a "healing" balm before putting something with alcohol on my skin after shaving.
The only thing you do not want to do is having two scents - the one from the balm and the one from the cologne - not matching; besides that, everything is allowed.

Ask you significant "other"!! Then you know if you are on the right track. One thing I find amusing is some of my female friends say "You smell good,I love that....it reminds me of my GRANDFATHER"

As long as you don't have cats following you around all day or skunks trying to dry hump your leg anything is pretty much fair game.
Seriously, get a second opinion from someone who is a good enough friend to tell you how you REALLY smell and go from there. The aftershave should wear off long before the cologne so eventually it should work whether it does or not in the beginning.
Personally when I feel the need to spash on a little "doe lure" I either use a fairly neutral balm first or just use aftershave in the morning and a light spritz of cologne in the afternoon.
