Another squeeze from ebay.
Another squeeze from ebay.
When listing on ebay.co.uk if you tick will ship world wide then your listing will show on other countries searches. Well now they charge 10p to get seen by the US & Canada.
Now to reach the extra custom I have to pay it but for the US & Canadian customers will have to look to ebay.co.uk to see most of the razors offered by UK sellers, unless they pay the charge.
I don’t know what is happening in other country’s but it seems to me that finding what you want will get harder.

"Personally" I would just stop using Ebay. If everyone did I think alot of their unfair "rules" would go away. Just my own personal opinion.

Its all about the money they can squeeze out of you. I agree with the idea of simply not shopping there.

Sorry to hear that Tony. I guess the way market works these fees are here to stay. They are too small to affect most sellers and the cost of finding how much they add is too much.
You can certainly do a quick estimate from your past auctions. Pretend that no US bidders were bidding on your stuff and see what the selling prices would've been (you should only worry about the top 3 bidders).
Ebay isn't doing anything unusual here - in our world they are supposed to be growing just as everybody else, so they just pay smart people to figure out ways to make this happen.

Ebay is just about making as much money as they can get. I have been bitten once as they "semi-automatically" added a 2nd category where my item was going to feature, that way DOUBLING the listing fee I had to pay them. Eventually I had pressed that button so there was nothing I could do but pay.

Another squeeze from ebay.
I am afraid there is no honesty in business nowadays.
I understand that they have to make money & make it safe for the buyers.
The thing that annoys me is that they have decided the “Worldwide” doesn’t include The US & Canada.
Some time ago they said that to include items from other country’s evenly in the listing wasn’t fair to the host country!
But it’s all right now if I pay 10p per listing for the privilege
Looks like double standards to me!!

Here in the USA they have been having the "Highlight Listing" button checked by default. I forgot to uncheck it while listing an item and it cost me $5.00 USD. But it is like the old one about the crooked poker game. When asked why do you play if you know the game is crooked, the answer is that it is the only game in town.

Nope not the only game in town, just the one most people know.
www.razorexchange.com is run by a member here
shopgoodwill.com has razors once in a while
onlineauctions.com has razors once in a while
Gunbroker.com and AuctionArms.com have razors but you'll pay a premium for most of them
There are probably at least a hundred other sites that have auctions with straight razors. It does take some looking tho

I never thought of looking for razors when I'm on gunbroker.com, dang it, wonder what I've missed.

I understand that they try out these ideas in the smaller markets before introducing it to ebay.com
In Australia they banned all forms of payment except paypal... you could not offer or advertise any other method of payment and the check-out system had every other method removed from its functionality... so you could not (in some cases) complete a transaction without using paypal.
This system has been suspended pending investigation by the ACCC (gov dept of trade etc) so for the time being it is business as usual while ebays' lawyers argue the case... but if it succeeds in the smaller australian market... you know where it will be introduced next...
The extra fees for worldwide listing havent been introduced here... but if they are successful in the UK then they will make that change worldwide.
You'd think they were already making enough money... but i beleive they got burned pretty badly on the skype deal and are desperately trying to recoup their losses

I've been seeing basically the same blades there for the last couple months, so I doubt you missed much. The prices seem to me to be high for what they are selling.
