What kind of grind is this?
It seems like it is hollow n one side and flat on the other. Is there a special purpose for this razor?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA:IT&ih=018
I suspect the hollow grind is , in part, to protect the etching.

I've heard of two kinds of razors that were only ground on one side... One is for barber use and only good for shaving other people and the other was a razor used to prepare laboratory samples.

Whatever the case...
That is a pretty shoulderless razor. I would guess that it would be a quarter or half hollow but it is impossible to tell from the photos. Send an email to the seller and ask if he could shoot the end of it. Good luck!

It's a chisel or "tanto grind":

Most Japanese kitchen knives and Emerson knives have this grind (chisel). It will cut more on the chisel size so I guess you couldn't really change hand with one of these. As Chimensch said, probably because it was meant to shave other people.
Or it might be a full flat grind on one side and hollow on the other. It's also used for some kitchen knives to perform fine cutting tasks. These 2 for example of a flat grind on one side and hollow on the other (one is left handed and one right handed)

It is simply bad lighting in the pic. It is a standard ground razor.
I think I'll throw my hat in the ring for that one, as a matter of fact...

That is a standard single concave grind aka wedge grind.

Looks as if it were sandblasted at some point. The blade and tang are nice and shiny, but also shows signs of previous pitting, and the etching is somewhat rounded.
Still, a very nice looking razor!

I just put that one on my watch list yesterday but I think I will just sit back and enjoy watching you and Lee duke it out over this blade!
Happy hunting,

To true! I got sniped three times in a row two nights ago I found this seller with some seemingly decent blades for sale and 100% feedback. When I looked deeper, he had sold some nice razors for pretty cheap so I wanted some of that action. Granted, I hadn't planned on spending much but I waited till the last minute of the auctions and bid my max. All of the snipers waited to put in their first bid until after me and the last one got me, literally, in the last second! I guess you gotta be willing to pay if you wanna play!

I'm actually going to drop out of this race.
I ordered a NOS this week, and also scored a (I hope) nice razor last night.
Best of luck to all those still in contention!

Not I.
However, If I knew it was going to go for only $51, I would have maybe stayed in the race!
Ah well, I scored another one just an hour or so previously as well, so I was spreading myself a bit thin....
Congrats to Sean! Whoever he may be.

It was a fleeting thought, I immediately changed my mind and didn't place a bid
Oh well, congrats, sean!
