I looked at it but the pic was poor and the corrosion around the edge worried me. I wouldn't have gone anywhere near the high bid on that one. Remains to be seen whether the high bidder was lucky or not.

+1. She's going to take a lot of work and I hope the spots on the blade were not caused by celluloid rot, or the pretty scales will be worthless.

Whoever got it for that price paid a bit much IMHO. They were paying for the name.

That sure looks like cell rot. For that price be glad you didn't win it.
The blade would have needed a lot of work, and if you couldn't even keep the scales, then it'd be way overpriced.

I don't entirely understand the replies. To me it seems that the OP won the item.

As the listing says: a collectable razor. I am afraid there's not much else you can do with it.

This is correct

As far as the corrosion on the edge/possible cell rot, it was definitely a concern. I was hoping it wasn't cell rot (in my experience its pretty unusual with lighter colored scales...I've really only seen it on dark/faux tortoise celluloid), and thought I could probably clean it up and render it shaveable if it wasn't. I took a chance due the seller's description and feedback...800+ with 100% positive, and a couple of comments indicating he'd given refunds to buyers that weren't happy with their item's condition. Plus I really wanted it, and its the only one I've ever seen for sale.

I got the razor today and it seems it was wishful thinking...definitely cell rot I've emailed the seller politely asking for a refund, and based on his feedback I expect he'll agree. I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

That's too bad. You can't win them all. I hope you get your refund.
