Looks NOS; was probably a some collectors in a bidding war or someone set an insane snipe thinking no one else would push it that high (but guess what? someone did). It happens every now and then on ebay; such is the nature of the site.

I just looked at the bidding history, and this is a good old fashioned bidding war ladies and gentlemen.
In the red corner we have 'stupid' and in the blue corner we have 'with stupid'

No way that razor is worth that much, other than 'because I got to have it'
Solely on its technical and factual merits, I'd give up to 70$ for it.

That seller frequently brings high prices for his razors. There is something magic in the incantation,"Shave Ready".

Bob has a very good reputation for selling nicely restored and lightly used razors. I think there is a willingness to bid a bit more on his auctions as a result.

Shave ready is a relative term, so take it for what it is worth. I know for a fact he hones the razors as I've been to his shop and had conversations. He may use only a Norton 4000/8000, but I just don't recall. He does shave with a straight, but if he shaves with each one he sells I don't know. He always has a bunch in the process of restoration or clean up, so I think it would be difficult to shave with each one.

I saw the auction was up to $300 last night and took a second look, but I don't see anything that would justify the price based upon the razor itself.

The seller puts out really well finished razors and I wish him every success.

He is one of a handful of E Bay straight razor dealers who sells quality and has built his reputation over time.

I purchased a razor of him some years back and it was first rate in every respect.

I agree with Bruno $70 is a fair price.

I have always enjoyed the razors I have bought from Altima, but as said here before, "what the market will bear".

I got a 6/8 Sheffield($76) from altima 6 months ago that has been in my rotation since the day I got it. Most of his razors are a bargain, if you figure they are shave ready and restored. I always ask myself what a new comparable razor would cost because his razors are in new condition. That said, there is nothing to compare a "German Solingen" razor to that would cost anything like $305. Bruno was right, an old fashioned bid war. I was looking through razors and was shocked to see this bid with over 24 hours left. I'm curious to see if anyone snipes @ this one.
I was horrified yesterday when I got my Henckels #72 from altima and it wouldn't shave. I was expecting a great shave..and the thing is a beauty! I know he honed it, but I think it was rolled. It sounded like it was shaving fine, I could hear hairs popping(I thought). After I got through with a spot I looked and all the hairs were still there! Tried a few more times.AAHHHRRGG!! I think I'll email him or get out the old Norton..or send it to Kenrup. I kinda suck at honing

It seems to have crossed the $400 threshold.

But all my razors have been honed by kenrup..I don't think I'd try and sell one "Shave ready" if I honed it

I did get out Lynn's video and went though all the directions with the Henckels yesterday. It shaves OK, it was what Lynn called "overhoned" when I got it.

Today was shave 3 with the "new" Henckels 72 from altima55 and I'm happy to say that it is an outstanding shaver. Sometimes I've noticed that particular razors get better after the second stropping/shaving. Or maybe I just get more used to the way a razor handles. Either way I'm very happy because it shaves as well as the new Friodur I bought months ago and had professionally honed.

Like many of us I'm sure, I watch Altima55's razors on Ebay. Many times that guy is loving life for some of the prices his razors bring. I agree, it's good to see quality razors like the ones he consistently lists.

My only beef with his listings is that I don't feel he fully discloses whether or not particular razors are RESTORED (re-pinned, scale swapped?, reground? etc). Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's something that could and some probably would say should be asked in a message to him in a given listing, but I don't feel that way. I want full disclosure in a listing up front.

I'm not saying I think he's up to no good by any stretch; for minty razors, there is a difference between an original razor and a re-pinned or restored razor value wise.
