Default lets watch this one?

Lets watch this auction and see how far it goes. That does look like a mighty fine razor though.

Since it's one of Bob Keyes' razors, it probably has not yet reached its halfway point yet.

I agree.
It's a reputable razor with little sign of use or abuse. It's been finished and sold by
a reputable E Bay dealer. It will be shave ready.
Why shouldn't it sell for the price of a new high end DOVO as a minimum.

Which one would you rather have?

Lets talk price. I think it worth $160. That's the price you will need to pay for an everyday run of the mill
Thiers Issard or a better quality Dovo.

Some might say that the rarity of the DD might actually make it worth more. Some might say that you are always taking a bit of a risk buying a second hand, pre used razor.

So I'll plumb for the midway $160. Not a Bergisher Lowe, not a Thiers Singing.

Don't ever be confused that the prices you see for shave ready in our own classifieds section are typical.
They are not. Shave ready is worth $20 by itself. So the razors that sell for $50 are really inexpensive. Most of the $100 razors are totally refurbished and as good as new.Look at the prices of a new Boker for example. They don't shave as well as the old Bokers.

If the market for straights continues to grow at the same rate as it has over the last three years, the prices of vintage razors will rise steeply as shavers realise just what they have been missing. Yes perhaps some new suppliers/manufacturers will start to supply the demand, but they will take a long time to match the quality of the old manufacturers.

Make sure you hang onto the razors you enjoy, because you may not want to afford the same in the future.

That one is now mine.

I'm new, and was looking for a collectible vintage razor with a solid reputation as a good shaver and easy to hone, from a trusted SRP-affiliated seller. It had to be shave ready, because I don't yet even own a hone, and have my hands full right now just trying to learn how to shave properly with a straight. But, I'm committed.

The cool funny name, pretty pearloid scales, and the little ducks just sold me.

Grats on the buy. I don't think Altima is affiliated with SRP, but his "shave ready" blades have been reputed to be just that.

Based on what you say you are looking for in a blade, a Duck should suit you well.
