I seem to remember these popping up here about a year ago, and it was determined that they were a cool piece of shaving history, but not practical for real use. But I could be mistaken.

Default deja vu all over again

Same here. I remember they were on ebay, I think someone even bought them out of curiousity and they were a sham device.

Interesting. I bought a piece of leather to use for a bench strop at a western goods store awhile back and told the guy what it was going to be used for. Now of course everyone's an expert and he said while he didn't actually own a straight razor he had it on good authority that the best way to maintain an edge was to sharpen it on the top edge of your car window glass. Somehow I just haven't gotten around to trying that yet....

Sparks, Nevada Police report last night Homer La Fong Died while shaving with his straight razor. His wife reported he was using his Iwasaki Razor and while shaving his neck it just seemed to have a mind of its own and came to life and cut his throat. Subsequent investigation revealed the razor belonged to Toshiro Kawasaki a WWll Kamakazee pilot who was killed when his plane slammed into the USS Yorktown. His last act was to shave with that razor. It is suspected the razor is haunted.

ok i'm gunna say that i have no idea about the marble thing but certain car class will put a very good edge o a blade i have done it many times with my knives but would not even try with a razor because the edge is way to fine you would destroy it with the amount of pressure you have to use

If I recall correctly, I think the basic problem with them was that the angle between the marbles relative to the edge of the razor was such that the bevel was not touched, thus making fairly useless for razor honing.
