any thoughts on norton 220/1000?

so currently i use a King 800 waterstone to set bevels. woodcraft has the norton 220/1000 on sale for $32. i was thinking of trying to find a more coarse stone for really bad edges, i like the size of the nortons, and i want something for kitchen knives to start on(220). then the 1000 will just be for the fun of it.

can anyone give some input on the 220/1000 norton? i don't want another brand, and don't have to buy one, just looking for thoughts on the norton.

I personally think that the 220/1k has a place in the honing arsonal for some of the razors that we deal with....

I've got a single grit 1K Norton. It is a good stone but slower cutting then the 1K Shapton Pro. I had a 220/1000 that I sold awhile back. The 220 is mighty coarse and I prefer the D8C 325 for serious metal removal and it does double duty as a lapping plate.

Personally I don't like the 220. It dishes out pretty rapidly.
Even really bad razors are doable on 1000, so I have a 1000/4000 as well as a 4000/8000

A really bad razor is usually honed in 2 sessions. And then it's nice to use the 1000/4000 until it passes the TNT so I only need 1 stone.

For really bad razors which need a lot of metal removal, I use the DMT8C. It stays flat, so when you want to skip to the enxt grit, you don't have to spend time just to make the bevels flat again.
And you can also use it to flatten your other hones.

my other option is the DMT 325, but i wanted some feedback on the 220. thanks for all of your input gents. the dishing is a concern, but i don't expect to use it much. more for knives.

however i could use the DMT as a needed lapping plate. wearing through the sandpaper quickly.

Care to buy a used 220/1k? I'll be selling mine very shortly! Not because I don't like it. I just have/am getting some different stones.
