Just a couple of days ago i managed to bump the edge of my razor in the sink.It really took of a decent chip.Total disaster!,I was finally getting somewhere with my honing,and getting really close shaves.(At least I thought I did.)So today I finally had time to fix it.I'm pretty fresh to honing razers,but I've experimented a lot the last couple of months,I also resently bought a chinese 12k stone and some thiers-Issard paste to have on my strop.Until now I've only used my norton 4k\8k and the strop.Anyways,my razor must be made of pretty hard steel,cause it took about 1500 small cirkels on the 4000 side to remove the chip.
After that I tried to set the bevil with about 50 strokes in a x-pattern on the 4000 side.I've watched Lynns video,so I started a pyramid (On the norton)with 15 and 15,10 and 10,5 and 5,3 and 5 and 1 and 5.Then about 30 strokes on the chinese 12k.I wasn't getting any results at all until I really consentrated on using as little force as possible.On the 3.round of the pyramid,I was able to do the hht with some effort.I then moved to the paste.Worked it in on the linnen side,and did 30 strokes then stropped 50 strokes.At this point I was starting to feel some magic.The razor just popped hairs,and I've never managed that before.I did 20 and 30.And last 10 and 20.On the strop before shaving.
The shave was just a joke! It gave a super close shave on the first pass wtg.After xtg and atg,my face just felt numb,but in a good way.I didn't use any force on the razor,and it just felt like it had never grown a single hair in my face.And my stubble is pretty coarse
So my question to the experts is this: Would you have done the honing in a different way.? I meen it's obvius I did something right,but do you think I could get the same result with lesser strokes?Or in some different way?

I'm no expert, but I have honed out...and used the faucet to add... well over 10-20 razors with chips and really rough edges on them, so take my limited experience for what it's worth:

If I were to do it different from your method ( I will say there is absolutely nothing wrong with your technique), I would add some real pressure while removing that chip. It goes a lot faster and you can still finish off with light strokes on the 4k and higher grits. It will go a lot faster if you do.

Like I said, your way obviously worked well, but you can speed things up a little with some elbow grease on the lower grits.
