Scuttle dimensions for the perfect scuttle...
Hi everyone,
Well I've been in contact with a renowned ceramicist friend who's agreed to create a custom made scuttle to my exact specifications - since I don't own one of the GP or Moss Scuttles, I'm not sure of the dimensions of the piece, diameter/depth etc.
What I'd like is a scuttle good enough to use to create the actual lather in, not merely just to keep it warm.
So, whats the ideal size of a scuttle that will do everything? I know brush sizes differ and lather needs differ etc, but whats the average usable diameter and depth most would agree is right for creating lather in?
I'll post about the Scuttle when it's made.
Thanks for your time.

My Moss scuttle measures approx. 3 1/4 "x 1 3/4". My preferred lathering bowl goes 4'' in diameter x 1 3/4" deep. Add some sort of striations in the bowl to help build the lather. I would start them @ the bottom of the bowl and bring them to the top rim every 90 degrees. Make sure that "washboard " effect is SMOOTH, you don't want to tear up your brush. The nice thing is that you know the artist, and will likely get true craftsmqnship, not just "cookie cutter" pottery.

Thanks Orgborn, 4" diameter is what I've been thinking, though I have planned to make it a bit deeper. Thanks again, I'm on the right track then..

I like about 4 to 4.5 inches in diameter and about three inches in depth.

" THIS" is a link to my post on B&B where is showed off the scuttle made for me by a local. The measurements are listed about halfway down the page, but for brevity the inner bowl is about 4" across at the widest inner diameter (not including the lip) and is just over 2" deep. I like my room to build lather.
" THIS" is a link to a quick and dirty website I set up to show off the scuttle and provide a link to the woman that created it for me.
Gaye was great to work with, and I look forward to purchasing lots of other accessories from her in the future, such as matching brush handles, razor stands, soap bowls, etc. I'm sure other people would be able to find locals in their area that can be commissioned to make a custom sucttle as well. I'm much more attached to this scuttle than I would have been to one that I had no input regarding the size, color, and overall design.

I want to add my 2 cents on this. I used to love using a scuttle when I only used my straight on the weekend. However I shave with one every day and just can't find the time to use it and I mostly don't shave on Sat or Sun so I can have a better shave on Monday. I will have to try to use it more.

Thanks, Silver.
I've been camping for the last few days, so I haven't had access to the net in a while. Otherwise I would have responded sooner.
BTW - the first shave after missing five days' growth is soooooooo smooth!
