Wow, you're lucky that it only has one hole. You can put a cork in it (literally) and use it the way modern scuttles, like the Moss scuttle, are used.

I would suppose getting something for a song means about the same as singing for your supper. That is, when you have nothing to pay, someone might let you have something just for entertaining them.

huh, now that makes sense. or at least sounds good. and i will have to get a rubber stopper for the hole. however even with my other scuttle, i don't have and issue with lather falling through. but i like the idea. i will have to try that.
