Mama Bear Soaps
Hey it seems that I can't find any reviews for Mama Bear in this forum. I guess they were victimized by the crash. Therefore this is the first.
Mama Bear you rock.
I just got in my first 2 Mama Bear soaps and tried my first shave with them. I am very impressed. These soaps are the most lubricating soaps I have ever tried. I lathered up with my new Simpsons Chubby 2 for the first time and it splashed lather out of the bowl and i found it so slippery I couldn't hang onto the bowl or the brush! I had to wipe them off and continue. Now that is what I want on my face! I also got the armani code and the new America scent. I like them both alot. The Code seems close enough to the real scent which is an awesome scent and the America is just awesome smelling. It made a very thick lather and it stayed on my face. The shave was wonderful since the razor just glided on a cushion of glycerin. I would highly recommend these soaps and any soaps from here as a result.
She also sent me 2 after shave balms. I have only tried the mandarin ice one and I love the scent. It is not greasy. And the menthol makes it very cooling. The other one is the winter aftershave which I will try but since I am in sunny south florida I don't anticipate much need for it. You snowbirds though should love it.
Sue I give you a Two Thumbs Up!

You could forward me some of that wonderful balm goodness... it's a stifling 4 degrees outside here right now.
I hear great things about Mama Bear... might be about time to get some for myself!

Yeah, I've been hearing good things about her soaps, and after smelling a few last weekend at the DFW razor party, I took the plunge and ordered a few. Can't wait for 'em to get here to try 'em out... I'll post a review when they do.

I've got nothing but praise for Mama Bear.
I got started with her products by trying her bath soap, which is great. I've now got some of her shaving soaps on hand and my experience has been the same. Touch the soap with a wet brush and it's an immediate lather volcano. The only problem I have with her shaving soap is that it is impossible to maintain a grip on the soap tub, once the lather is billowing out over my hand. Yes, the lather is really that slippery.
Excellent products at great prices. Mama Bear gets a definite, two thumbs up.

How is that balm?
I have a nice selection of shaving soaps that I like now, but need a good aftershave balm that will condition and moisturize.

Momma Bear's soaps are top notch. My favorite is the Gucci for him. I liked it so much I had her make me a bottle of the Summer Aftershave Milk in that flavor. Wow it is nice and the smell lasts for a long time.

Got the soaps in this weekend, tried them out at once. Got several kinds, but decided to try out the Dragon Tear soap first.
Wow! People are not kidding when they talk about the lubricating qualities of this soap. I have a cut on my neck because I am a heavy handed shaver and was expecting a bit more resistance! Very slick. Lathers up pretty easily; didn't have to thrash it about for 5 minutes like I do with some soaps. I really like the way the Dragon Tears soap smelled, haven't tried the Smoking or Ylang ylang soaps yet.

Any comparisons?
I am using up the last of the Sandalwood soap I got from classicshaving.com now and intend to order from MB based on the reviews.
My personal complaints about the classicshaving soap I have now are:
- the scent is too weak IMHO
- it dries out fairly quickly on the face
- it makes my face itch (very slightly).
Has anyone used both the classicshaving classic brand "premium soap" and the offerings from MB? I am already figuring on MB's being much better, but in what ways?
I know this may sound like a silly question, but I am just trying to get an idea of to expect (and possibly not set expectations too high).
BTW- looking to pick up either the vanilla sandalwood or the "Sapmoss" scents from MB, opinions on them would be appreciated too. Maybe both, but the descriptions sound very similar.

I haven't tried the classic shaving stuff but if it is drying out you need to add some more water. It will lather better that way too. Also if you have a boar brush get a badger because it just holds more water. I can use my brushed like a sponge to soak water off the counter.
if it is itching it might have fragrance oils or it could be the lack of water. Try out her essential oil soaps.

One of the nice things about soaps is that they are relatively inexpensive. There are a bunch of different kinds as well. Try a few and see what you like. Mama Bear and QED are glycerin soaps and are excellent. Some glycerin soaps have clay added, which I like. You also have triple milled or hard soaps like DR Harris or Trumper. I like the French Shea butter soaps like Pre de Provence. These last two I find creamier. It’s a personal thing in the end.

I tried the balm. It is unscented so I don't have a scent to review but it is very soothing and moisturizing. it is thick and not greasy like the crabtree I have which is runny and slimy. It seems moisturizing but i don't have dry skin so I can't tell to well. It seems that at a balmy 4 degrees this would the thing to try and you can get her to custom scent it for you.

Take care. If you have sensitive skin the FO soaps might feel like they're burning your face. The EO scented soaps however are heavenly for me.

Using a Vulfix super badger brush. As for the amount of water, I have found a good balance for how much to get a useable lather. I add a dash of hot tap-water to the bowl with the soap and fill the sink with water and soak the brush before I shower. When I'm ready to make up the lather, I will run the brush under the tap to get it as hot as possible, then give it a couple of light shakes and go to swirling it in the bowl. After the lather has set up, I'll quickly run the brush under the tap again just to pick up a little more water if the lather is too dry or thick. If I use any more water, the soap is is too thin (runny) to make a useable lather.
I have experimented with this soap a good bit which is why I'm looking at others like MB's.
Thanks for the feedback!

I cannot praise Mama Bears soaps or balms enough. I got a sample of that Mandrin Ice aftershave balm and I'm very impressed. Never thought anything could smell that good without also smelling "girly"..perfume type smell. I tried a couple samples of her shaving soap and it has ruined me from using any other kind. I bought two pucks from one of her competiters here and found that out the hard way. Ended up throwing one away and putting the other away for emergencies.
