Classic Brand Premium Shaving Soap
QUICK REVIEW:
Classic Brand Premium Shaving soap is a good shaving soap available in many different scents. At $5-$6 US it represents a good value. Some scents are stronger and richer than others. It is recommended.
A MORE IN DEPTH REVIEW:
The shave soaps reviewed are available from ClassicShaving.com and come in three sizes: Large ($6 US), regular, and scuttle (both $5 US). Large is 3 inches, regular is 2.5 inches, and for the shaving scuttle the rounded bottom of the scuttle soap should work well. It is offered in 15 scents: Almond, vanilla, jasmine, citrus spice, bay rum,lime-coconut, lime, sandalwood, menthol, mocha, violet, lilac, lavender, rose, and unscented.
These soaps were tested with a badger brush in a regular size mug, using hot water. Shaves were performed with a carbon steel straight razor. In use, some of the soaps tested had stronger and richer scents than others. For example: the reviewer found the almond to be particularly aromatic, while the lavender was not nearly as fragrant. All of the soaps allowed for rich, thick, creamy lather that permitted a smooth, comfortable shave. The soaps seemed to offer a good balance between performance and endurance (in daily use they don't get consumed too fast).
The good shaving properties and reasonable price make these shave soaps recommended.
The reviewer welcomes any feedback.

I've used both the bay rum and unscented and found the bay rum to burn like hell. Also I find I need to use much more product than say with castle Forbes and the resultant cream on the face is thinner than other creams. I think there are better choices out there for the money.

It is suspected the razor is haunted.

I've tried the Bay Rum and the Lavender. I liked the Bay Rum, scent and shave, but for some reason the Lavender has been an underperformer for me. With many products, the longer between uses, the more trouble I have getting a good lather, and I think that's what's causing my problem. I think if I used the stuff with more regularity, I'd have less trouble remembering any of the "tricks" that give a super long lasting lather.
The stuff is certainly very slick, but the lather doesn't last as long for me as some other products.
In terms of cost and value, these, like any cold pour soap, don't last nearly as long as some triple milled soaps. I think the soap is an OK value, but not the super duper value that the price tag would indicate.
I'll probably continue to order the more interesting scents when I'm placing classicshaving orders.

I use quite a few of the Classic Shave soaps. These would rate a solid 6 for me, slightly above average scent and lather, Nothing to get over excited about, no bad points either.... A good middle of the road soap choice!!!!
Hey what can I say something has to be average here

I have read several comments about CS soaps leaving the shaver with a strong burning sensation. This puts me off trying the product as I have had a bad experience with a shaving soap that left my face burning for 2 days, so i am not prepared to try something like that again. Even if perhaps its 1/5 chance. Those odds I don't like. Give me a TGQ soap any day.

Some of the stronger scents would burn if you have "very" sensitive skin
I have sensitive skin so I feel a very slight burn from the Almond which is by far the most aromatic of the 7-8 that I have... In fact the scent is so strong on this one it makes me want to bite the soap

I've never had sensitive skin prior to the trial of the said soap.
If you take a bite out of that soap, it will give new meaning to the old saying "wash your mouth out with soap".

My experience with CS soaps is that the first two weeks the pucks produced large bubble quickly fading foam. After that the lather created seemed to normalize to a longer lasting thicker lather.
This occured with three different pucks. I had almost geven up on the three soaps at different times.
It is almost as if the soap separated and the middle part worked better than the exterior. I suppose this sounds weird. It is just my experience. has anyone else had the same experience? MikeB

"It is recommended" ....by who? how strongly?
Given the wide variation of responses, you might want to personalize your review. I don't think that you speak for the srp website.

I think the classic brand is better than williams but not TGQ. I am using it now because I am away from home and it is in my travel soap can. When it is gone I will replace it with something from Colleen. The flavor is almond which is quite plesent. The classic seems to dry out my scalp more than the TGQ.
Just an opinion

After having tried the "Hypoallergenic" no scent version, I ordered the Lavender, and the Jasmine. I love the scents of both.
I just tried the Jasmine. I would say at least a 7 of 10 for lather, 10 of 10 for scent, and no tingle or burn. Just nice and smooth, long lasting lather that smells AMAZING!!!
