Default RAZORANTIUM shave cream by LUSH

Alright guys, this is my first review so lets hope it goes well:

Good Morning Class! Today we will be reviewing "Razorantium", a shaving cream by Lush Cosmetics. ( http://www.lush.com ) Lush cosmetics is a company out of Canada that specializes in making products out of organic materials.
These beliefs will certainly carry a lot of weight with the Vegan/Vegetarian/PETA crowd. (Right in line with Tony's Vegan strops) Right on their website they state:

"We believe in making effective products out of fresh organic* fruit and vegetables, the finest essential oils and safe synthetics, without animal ingredients, and in writing the quantitative list on the outside.

We also believe in buying only from companies that test for safety without the involvement of animals and in testing our products on humans.

We believe in making our own fresh* products by hand, printing our own labels and making our own fragrances."

Now Lush is apparently popular for the ladies but, as I found out last night, they offer quite a few products for us men:

http://usa.lush.com/cgi-bin/lushdb/c...&expand=formen

As we (SWMBO and I) were walking through the mall last night she saw the Lush store and pulled me in to check out their wears. I was interested in seeing what they had in the way of shave soaps since I already have 2 creams I am happy with (Trumpers Almond and C.O. Bigelow Sensitive Skin). But, much to my chagrin, they had no soaps... just creams.

The sales person showed me the three creams they offer. One for tough beards, one for sensitive skin, and one for regular people. As I have ALWAYS had to shower before shaving I picked the Razorantium to try and tackle my tough beard. The salse person did warn me though, this cream will clog your razor so you need to rinse after every stroke! (HAHA, little did he know!) So home I went, thinking about my next mornings shave.

The first thing you notice about this container is the scary picture of Audrey on the side actually giving an expiration date. This is a first, an expiration date on a shaving product! I spoke to SWMBO and was told that all their products have this type of sticker (one for each person who fills the tub or container). So I continued further and opened the container. The cream has a very nutty smell... I would say peanut, but SWMBO says "Philbert". And its THICK! (See pictures at the end)

Off I go for a 20 minute shower to soften up my beard and I am ready to shave. At this point I have about 3-4 days growth on my face so it will certainly be a good test.

I elected to skip my pre-shave oil to give this cream a fair shake. A big glob on my fingers and I start rubbing.

Now, I know what you all are thinking, where is my brush? My water? My GI-NORMOUS Supper Scuttle? Apparently, from what the sales guy told me, none of Lush's shave creams foam. The foaming action in shaving creams is caused by... (Clatu, Verata, Nic....::mumble, mumble, mumble:)... and that is not natural so.... no foam.

The cream feels like a very heavy moisturizer on the face and certainly is *VERY* slippy (Thats for your benefit Glen!). I keep rubbing for a while and there are some signs of bubbles but mostly just a shine that shows where the cream is. I begin shaving WTG and sure as shooting, this stuff is thick! I have to rinse quite frequently and the whiskers stay together in little globs even in the sink. I finish that pass and decided to try a XTG pass without re-applying... no problems at all... stuff is just as slippy. Finally a ATG pass, this time its a little rougher so it seems two passes is about all you can get.

Now I am done... and time to rinse. You can certainly feel this stuff on your face still, even after shaving three times, so I used a washcloth for a little rubbing. Once that was done I called in SWMBO to give it a cheek to cheek test. I passed with flying colors, no redness, no chafe, no burn. But here is the kicker, I don't even feel like I need an aftershave lotion. My skin is smooth and buttery, almost like aftershave would make it worse.

So, now I am off to have my day. I will follow up later with an update to let everyone know how I feel after 12 hours. I am also asking SWMBO to try out the cream for her legs, just figure it will make the trial complete!

Now the pictures below contain one of my face with cream and beard and one after shaving and washcloth just to be clear.

And in the end, this is just my opinion and experience. If you guys try this stuff I hope your experience is similar, but we all know... every face is different!

Cheers!

On a side note. Most of their soaps are glycerine based. So even their normal bath soaps will give you a good lather and a nice shave.

I tried the Ambrosia once. It was decent. Offcourse back then I was still shaving with a Mach3 and didn't know squat. Once one of my soaps run out I might buy some of that razorantium.....or Prince.

I found the Ambrosia rather thin .... after reading this review I pulled out the Prince this morning and used that , I tend not to shave in the morning as I have to get up real early . I have to admit it was well worth it .. Prince has the most amzing Orangey smell ..
For those who remember .. Dr Phong did some great reviews on these products long time ago ..

Where is Dr Phong these days ????

For me using a brush is a major part of the ritual / art so this isn't my cup o tea but I can see how someone may love it

Cheers
