Default Classic Brand Premium Shave Cream

Shaving Soaps, Creams, Lotions & Toiletries

I recently received one of these in the mail (Lavender scent) from the generous guys at classicshaving.com. (won this as a door prize from the DFW get together, apparently) For testing, I used my 28mm silvertip brush and a 4/8 Perfect Wizard, along with my redneck scuttle for making lather.

Scent: what can I say, it smells like lavender! If you like lavender, you'll love this cream. I am mildly allergic, so it made me sneeze, but it was still a good smell. If you like lavender, call it a five. 3/5

Consistency: this is almost a solid, it is very very dense, much denser than Proraso. The upside is, it's solid enough to just rub a damp brush on, you don't have to dip it out with a spoon like with other creams. 5/5

Lather: ok, this is where it just gets ridiculous. I squeezed my enormous brush dry, then swirled it to absorb some cream. I then put about 0.25" water in the scuttle and began vigorously lathering. It was about stepping on a land mine, only with lather instead of shrapnel. Almost imidiately, the lather overflowed my (rather large) scuttle and made a huge mess. I couldn't wipe the grin off my face. the lather was incredibly dense, about the consistency of handmade whipping cream. heavy, and opaque. 5/5 (only because 6/5 is improper)

Shavability: again, fantastic. brushing it on my face, I could not feel the brush at all, just warmth and a nice smell. (silvertip helps this a lot) I sat faceturbating for a while, and then got down to shaving. I very nearly couldn't feel the razor, the foam was so dense. I found myself wondering why the hell I'd bought other soaps before. Lubricates as well as a bentonite soap. 5/5

final remarks: 18/20
Damn fine cream. Lathers as well or better than Proraso, shaves as slick as a high-bentonite soap like Chelsea's or Saint Charles. Smell was not my favorite, but that just gives me an excuse to buy the bayrum version! or maybe unscented, and add my own scent. GO BUY IT! best cream you'll ever use.

Default Could agree more . . . :)

I'd give it 19 out of 20! Very good stuff . . . and one of my favories shavers is the Classic DuPont Limited edition Dovo (which I won at the Ohio Get-Together) to match it!

I received the same shave cream. It could spoil me. It is very mild sent to me, but enough to smell it. It has a long lasting lather and kept the heat very well with my scuttle. Great stuff.

I would buy this cream over most of the very expensive creams I've tried.

I've used two of their premium creams and several of their soaps. I like the soaps though some can burn but performance wise they're good. The premium cream, I've used the bay rum and unscented. The bay rum I found burned bad. I thought the overall performance of the creams was nothing to write home about. I had to use alot to develop a good lather. As fast as the stuff was used up I could have bought castle Forbes and it would have lasted far longer and personally I don't think the Classic cream is even in the same ball park as the CF.

It is suspected the razor is haunted.

DEFINITE +1 on Jockeys review!!!!!

I also was fortunate enough to receive the same Lavender Cream. Cannot offer enough praise for this fine product! Will be ordering the Bay Rum scent when I'm close on this one.

alright, you lot, got some pix of the ridiculous, thick creamy lather. pictured also is my homemade 28mm silvertip in action. the lather was more than 3/8 inch thick on my face holy crap, BBS all the way. sorry for the goofy face, I was trying to photo myself with one hand and hang onto the brush with the other all while covered in lather :-P

hmm interesting, I have this cream (first I bought when I recently purchased a DE razor) I love the cream, it smells great and shaves very well, but I can't get it to lather. I face lather usually, but tried it once or twice in a bowl. I get so little lather, that I would almost say I get no lather... it still shaves great though. Perhaps tomorrow I'll try it again with more water

This review is so good that I'll have to give this cream a try. Good imagery, Jockey!

oh, and +1 on your use of the word "faceturbate."

Well I finally got some of this in my rotation, ordered the Bay Rum scent (big surprise there) I was pleasantly surprised with the lather, in fact I would rate it well above average......
The scent was not all that strong to my nose but I would not recommend this one to you if you have overly sensitive skin, there was a very slight burn on my face.... Overall a pleasant experience and it will stay in rotation....
