Ok so last spring i replaced the clutch on my mustang and have had the old one lying around. Well me and my buddy got together and made a table out of it (pic to follow) but i need some help. I only ask because i know that this forum is LOADED with craftsmen of all sorts. Ok the table is all metal except for the friction material on the clutch. This is a piece of furniture and i need to be able to touch it without ending up with black hands. Is there a way to seal the clutch disc so that all the dust doesn't come off on my hands?


other than that...what do you think of my new end table? (i have a piece of glass to put on top)

I'm hesitant to say no entirely to it, but that's kind of the idea of clutch plates- they wear down and leave fine powder. I would imagine though that if you cleaned it extremely well in a non-abrasive manner, you could likely spray it with clear paint and be ok. Seriously clean though, otherwise the paint doesn't stand a chance.

I would recommend using a solvent to clean out the dust and then follow with a steam cleaning...any engine overhaul shop should be able to direct to the correct resources, if you don't know of them already.

The steam will get rid of any remaining dust and solvent. The metal should then be squeaky clean.

Finish with an oil-based clear polyurethane.
