Against, across or with
How do you guys shave? Against, across or with the grain. I started to shave across, and then tried against. But when I shaved against the grain with my DE, I got razorbumps. Do you guys have problems shaving against?

I shave with on the first pass, across on the second, and finish up where there is any hair left against, but only if I have to.

Typically I shave with on the first, across on the second, against on the third. I sometimes leave off the across pass if I'm maintaining a good shave. I sometimes cheat and skip a day or two as my beard doesn't grow very quickly.

The rare times I use a DE I usually do with first and across second.

It is suspected the razor is haunted.

I usually shave with the grain on the first pass and on the second pass I shave against the grain. Now my hair grows wierd in some places so the against the grain pass really only hits about 90% of my beard against the grain. So then I just wet my finger tips and feel for the areas that need a little more work and feel which way the grain is and hit those areas with some lather and shave away.
I suppose I could just do the WTG, XTG-Left, XTG-Right, AGT to get all the hair at every angle but I get bored and the way I do it now doesn't irritate my skin at all unless the blade is starting to dull.

I go WTG, then XTG, then ATG with either the DE or the straight....although I've used exclusively straights now for the last couple of months.

With a straight I go with, then across. With a DE I find that all three (with, across, then against) work best.

I always shave North to South, then "Southish" to "Northish", following the curves of my face. Then touch up, ATG, a few known spots with stray growing whiskers. On a good day, that leaves me BBS. On a bad day, that leaves me, eh, extremely closely shaved.
Best regards,
Bart.

My standard is 2x WTG then 1x XTG This is enough for work
Then I consider my time and how the shave is going before going ATG
Depending on the timing and priority of my encounters I'll either go for the ATG plus touch ups or hold off for a single pass shave later in the evening.
* I let the lather taper off from thick lather to start to just a little more than water for final touch ups or detailing.
That's me

Yes, five or more, I don't get any razor burn. I get a very smooth shave.

I lather twice before shaving, then:
First pass is with the grain
Second pass is mostly across the grain but angled a little downward, about a 45 degree angle. Chin is done on the second pass (across the grain mostly).
I do the neck against the grain.
I add water and spend a few minutes buffing and adding water, getting missed spots, just relaxing and tooling around my face, checking for missed spots, adding water again, etc.
I then go ATG under the lower lip
