Mach Three
A friend of mine has been telling me that his mach 3 will last him a month and I laughed at him because my long experience using mach 2 blades suggested a blade life of 3 or 4 days. So he bought a mach 3 for me and this morning I shaved with it, and have been curious to see how sharp it feels since coming here and seeing some people say it is the sharpest razor around.
I found it no sharper than the mach 2 I used previously, but it didn't irritate my skin like the mach 2 used to. It was a little disappointing that the blades didn't glide through my beard nearly as easily as I was told it would, but it reinforces my satisfaction with using a straight. I'll be returning my buddy's mach 3 to him when I see him again later this week.
Thanks for reading!

Depends on how he looks after it. There was a thread, perhaps lost in the crash, which made comments about a bic disposable lasting a year if I recall correctly. Another said soaking the blade in oil will help. Its apparently oxidization and some sort of crystals form on the blades make them dull.
Could be true, I never tried it coz I found that info after I switched instruments.

I saw a new maching adverised on tv over the weekend (15 bucks) that strops the M3 blades - seriously. I've never gotten more than four or five shaves from an M3 cartridge and they probably hurt a little after 3.
I think M3s are great by the way - I always get BBS shaves with little effort from them and don't get the irritation some do. I just like DEs and Straights more. I can't stand the price of M3 cartridges, but being hones I spend more on straights and creams and soaps and....... so ironically the cost of M3 cartridges sent me into a far more expensive hobby - but I"m glad because I love it.

I have an old mach 3 head that has been used a bit more than 3 months total. Still have it under my sink. And sad to say it can still do the job, just have to add more pressure. Actually when I was using machs I preferred the slightly used heads as then I could do it fast and with just water.

Here lies the secret...
Q. Will an ordinary experimental pyramid sharpen metal? If so, how long does it take?
A. Yes, a cardboard replica may even sharpen knives, scissors, razor blades and surprisingly, even electric shavers. Correct exposure time depends upon many factors. But, if the test is set up properly, noticeable results have been reported after over-night pyramid exposure. Electric razors and heavy duty cutlery may require two days or more. Interesting to note that WWI Russian soldiers discovered that a full moon dulled a razor's edge.
For real, I saw it on the Internet.!

I used to get about a month on my M3 blades and that was shaving 4 days per week.

I think you will have more satisfactory results if you wear the foil beanie whilst using a cardboard pyramid:

AFAIK, there's only one type of pyramid that will get your razors sharp... the 5-5, 3-3, 1-3, 1-3, 1-5 type!

While I was in the hospital with Marlow and his mother just after he was born I had a shave with the old Track II. I was actually surprised at how well the shave went. No cream and still no rash, no pulling and a good finish. Two days later I tried the same blade and noticed a decline already. Some people are happy with that. I'm not one of those people.

Didn't Neo sharpen a Mach 3 cartridge with his mind when he visited the oracle?
