Default Mmmmm Sake

I am not a connoisseur (I can't even spell it), after all.. I LIKE 2 buck chuck.. but I like a good sake now and again. I just picked up this Sho Chiku Bai Nigori unfiltered sake at Safeway and it is darned nice. (and I drink it at room temp)

I love the unfiltered stuff. Occasionally I find an extra dry that I really like, but unfiltered is the way to go. I'm not really a hot sake fan, so I don't miss that.

I am a big fan of the Umeshu, which is a japanese plum wine, served chilled. I do enjoy a good hot sake though with dinner every now and then.

I just can't do hot Sake. I don't like it that way at all. For me it kicks up the burn and does nothing for adding to any flavor or complexity. I'll admit I'm uncultured saying that, but I think it's downright gross that way.

I've been given to understand that it should be served at room temperature, not heated. ...or it is just that I prefer it that way too, or chilled

When I was in japan you could order it hot(warm, just like as if you left it out in the hot sun for awhile) or cold. The fruitier ones are better cold, and then the drier ones warm.

Unfiltered sakes are served cold or at room temperature, but never heated. Other sakes can be served hot. It is pretty nice on cold days, but it definitely does kick up the burn when you swallow it.
