Memorial Day
For those of us in the US, today is Memorial Day.
For those of you that have served, we thank you. And we've love to hear your stories today.
Everyone stop in and thank them. I'd be really happy to see this be the longest thread ever.
Thanks David

There are walls, statues, monuments, and medals all over this nation to commemorate the heroic sacrifices of the many brave individuals who make our country safe. None of these can fully express the thanks of a grateful nation. I am proud to stand in such company and will strive to be worthy of the gift you have given me. Thank you.

It would be nice to see this thread grow. Whether you agree with what is going on in the middle east right now or not our service men and women desrve our support. It is thanks to them and those before them that we can sit here on a pleasant Monday afternoon, or any day and enjoy our freedom.
While I have not had military service I my day job is for a defense contractor and we make weapons system components for just about everything that flys, floats or runs on tracks. Every day we think about the men and women we support through our labor.
While I usually post the below message on Pearl Harbor Day it seemed fitting today for Memorial Day as well as I am cleaning out my shop. Much of what I have here was my dad's shop and tools from his endevors many years ago and I have been thinking of him alot the past few days as treasures from my childhood are found once again.
__________________________________________________ __________________________
Pearl Harbor Day:
My dad was just old enough to enlist when this happened. His brother was two years older. Both went down and enlisted on Dec. 9th after hearing about Pearl Harbor on the radio. My dad joined the Airborne Artillery, his brother the Rangers. Both saw action in Europe. Dad came back un-harmed after 4 years, his brother came back minus an eye and a hand from injuries (but with a beautiful British bride ). Their uncle was a prisoner of war in Germany for the duration. My dad and his brother built their homes next door to each other, their uncle down the road. They were always together and I grew up on plenty of war stories.
Dad has been gone 26 years, his brother 16. I still think about their commitment, especially every December 7 th. I have worn my Dad's wings on a chain around my neck every day since he passed.
Bless you Dad.

To any active or past servicemen and women: thank you for your service. Your efforts and sacrifices have kept me and my family safe, and we never forget that. Your courage is a credit to our nation, and we are all very proud of each and every one of you.
God bless you all and keep you safe.

There is no greater quality that can be offered to an entire nation than liberty and freedom, and I am thankful that so many worldwide and especially in the USA through the years have taken up the burden of securing the liberty and freedom that so many now live with.
Even though I know the USA is not the only nation to have fought for the right of men to choose liberty over tyranny, I am quite proud to be one of its citizens and hope that the government of the USA never abolishes its tradition of securing that right to liberty
Thank you!

I'm not in the US, but I'd like to add, on behalf of Australia, my thanks too. We're all in this together, and Australia and the US have a long and friendly history in terms of service. We have our equivalent on the 25th April called ANZAC day where we remember and thank the men and women who have fought for, and died for, our country.
So to our friends in the US - thank you. And to quote from the ANZAC day service:
Quote:
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

First and foremost, Thank you to all who have served and are currently serving in the Military.
To those that haven't served or have never been around the Military,
Although it may seem that simply saying "thank you" for all the freedoms granted in this country is not enough, I can honestly say as one who "has been there , done that" its one of the greatest rewards that a military member can get. To have someone come up, who you don't know and say thank you means a lot to these brave men and women. The support for the troops is just awesome and I hope it only grows larger.
Thank you, for your Support of OUR Troops!
Bob

Tony I agree with you 100%!!! Your story about your dad and uncle is wonderful and representative of the feelings Americans had for their country those days. My son is military and I can appreciate it just like you. +1

James, thanks!
While the pages of history become faded with time if you will, all of us who serve or have served will never forget that it wasn't just Americans along side us. Even in this war, I've lived one tent over from Australians, our helicopters have went on missions with Poland's GROM (and others) and we've shared bunkers with British, and that is just the tip of the iceberg. The books may forget, but we won't.

My gratitude and respect to all who have served, to all who serve, and to the memories of those whom have perished.
Thank you.
Quote:
IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
