Couldn't stay logged on; gave up in disgust. Hope the lucky and persistent won something.

Yeah, me too! I couldn't stay awake (it was 3 AM here), but I did leave the PC turned on in the main forum page, I don't know if it counts this way.

The connection to the servr was very slow last night, I gave up around 10:00 pm. I'm guessing it had something to do with the Webcast that was going on

event
Probably would be a good idea to reschedule this event. I had trouble getting on and apparently many others did to. It will be a surprise if anything close to a record was achieved.

I was looged on most of the time... I was up working until 05:00 GMT... but I had trouble refreshing the main page a lot of times. The largest number I saw online was 130... so I figure we didn't break the record.
I did manage to sign up for the raffle... good idea, that was!

Do any of you computer gifted know what may have caused the remarkable slow-down yesterday evening? I tried to log on and was told (in the nicest terms, of course) that the internet site I was trying to find was unavailable. I got on once and tried for the chat site. Nope - nada - not available. Did we just have too much traffic attempting the same thing? But if we had something like 600 successfully trying the same thing a year ago and it worked, that shouldn't have been the problem.
While I use computers daily, I know next to nothing about their care or feeding and am mystified at how they function at times so slowly when their diet, electricity, is suppose to work at light speed (warp 1 ?). Rather, I'm quite impressed and overwhelmed at times with their frailties and downright sloth like responses. At work we have one very highly paid tech who does nothing but attend to the demands of our server. I have to attend to the maintenance requests of and service tenants in 20 buildings. Have things been skewed the wrong way? This one sometimes is given to think so.

Congratulations to the winners, and many thanks to everyone who was involved in the attempt.
It might not have worked out exactly as planned this time, but it's the thought that counts. Plus, I think I saw some members pop up that I hadn't seen in quite some time. So from that point of view I consider it a complete success.
Anyone else a bit suspicious that Gugi won first prize? From all accounts he's a bit of a maths and computer whiz.....and the server just "happened" to "go down" right when the winners were drawn... (Just joking Gugi - enjoy your spoils mate! )
James.

One of these days in your travels, a guy is going to show you a brand-new deck of cards on which the seal is not yet broken. Then this guy is going to offer to bet you that he can make the jack of spades jump out of this brand-new deck of cards and squirt cider in your ear. But, son, do not accept this bet, because as sure as you stand there, you're going to wind up with an ear full of cider.
