The Winners of the raffle for the July 12th Record Breaking Event
Well last night was quite an event. With all of us signing on to the chat room and discussing various subjects and then when the time came for the raffle to start we killed the server. Our hosts tell us at one point we had 3000+ trying to access the website. What really happened is that Dave spilled beer on the server and he is trying to blame all of us..... We didn't break the record but I think that all that got signed in had a good time. We even had a moment when Lynn dropped in and said HI to everyone. Regardless it was a fun evening and now for the listing of the winners but first I wanted to thank Dave for trying to make this event happen I know he put in a lot of time on this. We had some problems but maybe they can be figured out and have another one of these.
The winners are:
1st Place: gugi
2nd Place: mastermute
3rd Place: riftere
CONGRATULATIONS ALL

It sure was, even prompted me to download and install a proper IRC program so I don't have to open so many srp pages (1 for the chat, 1 for the sign up thread, 1 to see how many were online etc)
I'm looking forward to the next one guys.
Tony

Without getting surly how in the hell can you announce winners to the raffle when nobody could get on the server? Crap at best!

Well surly you can understand that from about 10:05 PM EST until around 10:35 PM EST, which is when we closed the raffle which is actually 20 minutes more than we had planned on, 87 people managed to get in and sign up and from that number three winners were picked. From what I could tell the server was working fairly well then...........before that though it is said that approx. 3000 members were trying to sign in and that pretty much blew the servers mind. We now know what will happen when this is tried again and hopefully a solution will have been thought of.

Bill,
One of the things which I never clearly understood was the time zone for the 9:50 log on hog pile. Perhaps if this is something we do next year the GMT +/- can be stated right up front so there are no interpretation issues. We of the slow appreciate all the help we can get.
Game try all and congratulations to the winners!

Bruce, actually it was supposed to be at 9:50 PM EST which is -4 hours from GMT (Greenwich Mean Time). I saw the posts about the time zone thing but didn't get involved in it. At the time of the alleged signing in I guess that there was approx. 3000 members trying to sign in which launched the server into outer space. Hopefully when we have the next one some of the problems will have been ironed out.
Thanks for inquiring.

3000 guys waiting in line. Wow. That's longer than the beer booth line at a Hank Williams Jr. concert. Great time had by all. Congrats to the lucky winners.

I would like to thank the fellas in charge for keeping it orderly and fair. I understand that we couldn't break the record and some folks missed out, but given the circumstances it was handled as well as possible.

1st prize
My 1st prize arrived yesterday and here's a picture of it. Not trying to rub it in, just doing some sharing with you guys
Shaved with the razor, the brush and the cream, finished with the Limes skin food - rather nice shave.
The brush is nice and stiff, yet soft, I'd probably pick it over many badger brushes. However it already is on its way to another member to help out a person in need.
I like the tabac shaving cream. I've been trying few english creams recently and since I lather on my face I found it somewhat more challenging than the old soap way. Tabac being not as dense worked a whole lot better. I may keep it
The razor is nice and sharp - I was warned that it may be a bit too sharp, so I was paying attention to my technique and not just doing the usual autopilot thing. Yes it's sharp razor, not the stiffest edge, but not he most flexible either. Didn't go for complete BBS, but it's very close. A bit closer than the side I used to test another razor on, but a very slight irritation as well. Was fun going ATG on the toughest spots on my face too Nice razor, nice honing
Limes skin food is not bad at all, but I do prefer the coral.
Finally I sniffed the wilkinson soap - hmm did nivea made it - it smells nice, but I've grown to like more the more natural smelling stuff, so this one will probably go to a newbie. I liked better the way th VDH soap smells - a note of sandalwood it seems - barbershop like. Will have to try them out and see how they lather.
Anyways, thanks a lot Ookla for the generous donation, Bill (and all the other mods) for organizing it and the rest for cheering up for me (you did want me to win, didn't you ).

I don't mean to be picky, and it is already over, but don't you mean EDT which is -4 hours from GMT. EST is -5 hours from GMT and is not observed anywhere I know of this time of year. Also, sorry I missed the event.

That is true, but Arizona is also not on Eastern time, so they stay on MST.

I recieved my prize today! I just LOVE the Tony Miller strop! I have been wishing for one for a long time! And thanks to the SRP-raffle I now have one! The strop is just beyond anything I could ever had imagined! I'm so proud! Thank you SRP and Tony for making this dream come true!
And the Union Cutlery razor looks suspiciously like a Heljestrand, does anybody know if Union Cutlery imported these? Either way, it's a winner!
And the Bay Rum... Always a hit with the ladies!
