The Wiki is Live!
Constant Shaver,
I'm super proud to announce that our wiki is live now. This is the result of a huge effort by several people.. Most noticeably ByronTodd and gugi.
Feel free to jump in and start creating articles, editing them, and generally having fun. The thing that will make our wiki great, is the same thing that has always made SRP great. YOU!
Thanks for everything,
David, Lynn & Don

Sterling stuff. You are, as we all know, da bomb.
Couple of remarks:
- For those of you who do not know how a Wiki works, or how its text should be formatted, do read http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Editing
- The standard editing toolbar is nice, but you can save a lot of time and trouble by using a specialised editing tool.
- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Text_editor_support has an explanation of how to install and invoke those tools.
- if you are using Firefox (and you should be, for many, many reasons), a good thing to have is wikEd. Installation takes two mouse clicks, and the result is, well, extremely useful (click to enlarge):
- Just out of curiosity: I have started to convert some stickies into Wiki pages. Is that appropriate? If so, what is the process for modifying other users's intellectual property?
Any road, well done, guys!

I started a Wiki on Wet Shaving not very long ago and have been working on it, but I'd be happy to abandon it and put my efforts into this Wiki if user registration is enabled. I've looked into the wiki markup language used and, although it's a little convoluted and has a learning curve, the capacity for organization in MediaWiki is very good. We should start taking advantage of categories and subcategories within the Wiki framework. The more organized we can get it starting out, the easier it will be to manage going forward.
So who do I have to ask for a login with sysops permissions that I can use to help you guys develop and expand this?

I'd also like to mention that TikiWiki is something that should be evaluated, too. I've been working with both TikiWiki and MediaWiki and There are some really nice features with TikiWiki that MediaWiki simply doesn't provide, such as clear cut tree structures, hotwords, a really nice editor, lots of add-ons and outstanding granularity in permissions.
Hotwords is particularly nice since every time someone keys in a "hotword", the link to the "hotword" page automatically generates. So if someone mentions a "Dovo" razor, and Dovo is established as a hotword, then Dovo links to the Dovo page. Some great hotwords would be for different grind styles, makers, manufacturers, honing, etc. etc.

We chose MediaWiki because it's one of the few wikis that can pass-through / integrate with the vBulletin logins (which is what the forum software runs).
I suspect that the reason that you're not seeing the edit function is that you haven't logged in. There is a login in the upper right hand corner and you just use your SRP username and password. As of right now, the only page that is "locked down" is the home page. Every other page (including those yet to be created) are freely editable - assuming you've logged in with your SRP credentials.
If you see something or want something added, let us know, we are very much still in the building / expanding process on the wiki and have added several wiki add-ons just today!
Thank you for your contributions.

OK, that's cool. It's good that it's integrated. I'll try logging in.
