Default Wilkinson 3 razor box set in Olive

I finished up these three beauties for a SRP member. It is a 3 razor boxed set of Wilkinson razors. They were in pretty bad shape when I got them with some heavy pitting on the tang. One razor looked like someone took a bench grinder to the tang to grind off the rust. The blades were in pretty good shape and the edges and spines in very good condition.

I gave the blades, particularly the tang, some pretty heavy sanding. I started at 320 and worked my way up to 2K wet paper. Some of the pitting remains but to remove it all I would have to sand the tangs down to the point that no makers mark would remain. One of the blades has some very light pitting remaining but you can only sand a small hollow ground blade so much before you risk changing the grind so I don’t sand hollow ground blades very long. Once the sanding was finished I took them to the buffing wheels to work the blades out to a nice shine. I think they turned out pretty good. The spines have some engraving on them so could not do any sanding on them and had to go easy on the buffing wheel or else I would buff off the light scroll work and numbering.

I mounted them in some olive scales with walnut wedges. Since the blades were so delicate I cut some extra thin scales to keep everything in proportion. The epoxy resin adds plenty of rigidity to the scales, they are much tougher than they look. All my scales are match booked. That is cut from the same slice of stock so the left and right scale matches perfectly. Look at the wedge end photo and you will see what I mean.

I think they turned out quite nice.

But I do have a bakers dozen of 8/8 Friodur’s that are in the final stages of polishing and scaling, but you will have to go to shavingshop.com to get them.

One of these days in your travels, a guy is going to show you a brand-new deck of cards on which the seal is not yet broken. Then this guy is going to offer to bet you that he can make the jack of spades jump out of this brand-new deck of cards and squirt cider in your ear. But, son, do not accept this bet, because as sure as you stand there, you're going to wind up with an ear full of cider.

Wow, compared to what they looked like before.

They look real expensive.

Honed them up last night. They took an edge very quickly and are wicked sharp. The steel is nice and slick as well, glides across the skin.
