Default W&B Bow in Blackheart Sassafras

I seem to spend more time restoring than taking pics but made an effort for this one. I'll post some other restos soon but apologies for my photo skills. I took 36 shots to get any that were worthwhile.

This is a W&B Bow I got off eBay and broke the bakelite scales while de-pinning. It happens.

Not much into before shots so I included the eBay pics

On a positive note I was given some Tasmanian Sassafras which I thought I'd try. Pretty timber I think and the Yin Yang effect was a nice bonus. Hand rubbed oil finish to 1000 grit - much less frustrating than CA.

I wanted to keep the engraving so started at 800 grit on the razor and worked up to 3000 pre buffing.
Still some pitting and staining of course but that's ok for a workhorse.

Yet to hone it but hopefully it shaves like a W&B should.

Very impressive - I'm also working on a W&B that I want to keep the engraving - I'll follow your lead and start at 800 grit...and hours later, it may turn out like yours...LOL

I also love the spacer - very nice and even wedge shape - nicely done!

Thanx for the kind words guys - much appreciated
I think this is my lucky 13th resto and it came together ok... after breaking the original scales

Mark ~ Go easy even with the 800. The engraving is not that deep. On the other hand if you go nuts and turn it into a mirror I bet a local engraver could reproduce it. I did that with another W&B - worked out ok. A lot of those fonts are available. They just run it thru a computer guided diamond cutter & voila ! Like new
Must thank Bill Ellis and his CD re the wedge and most other aspects of general resto.
