Default Shapleigh Razor in Eucalyptus and Bubinga

Some of you may remember when I was selling scale blanks several months ago. I had some pieces left over, and I had a go at some mixed wood scales.

That's neat! How did you do it? It's ok if you don't want to tell your secrets!.

Thanks Randy!

Doc - It's no secret. Actually pretty simple process. You take the two scale blanks - in this case a piece of bubinga and a piece of eucalyptus, and you double side tape them together. You cut out any squiggly pattern on a scroll saw - but you have to be smooth and flowing with your cuts. You take blanks apart, swap the halves of the different species of wood and glue them up. Because you had them taped together during the cut, they'll be a mirror image of each other. After glue up, you just cut and shape however you please.

That's how I do it too. Tutorial here:
"Fusion" Scale Blanks: How-To

This looks a lot like my walnut/kiaat combo, seen in these two razors:

Geneva Cutlery Co. 5/8 w/ Buddel Scales

6/8 Frederick Reynolds Concave w/ Buddel Scales
