brass frame back from scratch
I posted this a long time ago before I lost my password, now that you fellas have revamped the place I figured I'd show it again.
Handles are bone, brass pins and frame, carbon tool steel blade.

Never saw the first post but she looks pretty darn good… I like the swirls in the scales… and that blade looks ready to do business….
Wadaminit!!! Did you make that… from scratch? Looks vintage… nice work! How does it shave?

Looks great! Would you tape the spine of this razor while honing?

I would! Brass wears down quicker than steel. It's softer.

thanks guys
yes, tape it becuase of the brass
I use steel that has been rusty for a while and sometimes leave the patina on the flats to give it "that look"
Couldn't tell you how it shaves facial hair (shaves arm hair effortless), because I don't . I just like straight razors. I often take factory razors that are worn or damaged and make them into knives.

That's just what I was thinking Alex!
Framebacks have a certain cool-ness factor to them, I wonder why the more difficult
to produce hollow-ground razors stole the limelight?

I like the looks of your razor.
How is the brass attached to the blade? What type of bass is it?
I seem to remember seeing older razors having similar constructon, steel blade brass backs.
The handles and blade go together very well.
Cool!!

it's yellow brass, and was inspired by those oldies you speak of. It's attached with hillbilly solder

Ok what's hillbilly solder?
It is pretty cool. I like "the look" and the scales have a nice color. I've been thinking of making my own, and thought of a couple ways to close the open end.
How'd you do yours?

lol I thought JB showed a remarkable degree of sophistication. I was really expecting something to do with bullets dug out of a tree and denture adhesive
