Default When a razor is no longer a razor

It's a knife!

razors that are beyond restoration or are not of much value in my eyes I sometimes turn into friction folding knives. Here is a bowdins wedge I turned into a drop point. I rehandled it in hand jigged and dyed bone with a bone butt spacer. 3 pin design makes it easier to use as a knife. after blade reshaping it is then reground by whichever means suits it best, if it's a thick old wade I can usually flat grind it or if it's a thin little bowdin wedge I re-hollow grind it. Hollow ground ones with no false edge like this one can be honed just like a razor if desired. I make them so they take a bit of effort to close so they won't accidentally come open in your pocket, though a snug fitting leather sleeve or neck sheath is reccomended for good measure.

What a cool idea!!

How does it go fully open? Could you rig a little spring loaded clip (with a button release or something - hidden as the third pin?) inside the scales so that the tang clips into it when straight out? I know nothing about knives, so please feel free to laugh if that is a ridiculous suggestion.

But that looks great and is a marvellous idea. Thanks for that.

James.

thanks guys.

Jimbo, never thought of that, I might try developing something like that one day.

They don't chip if you don't do anything silly with them like bind them or pry with them.

From $75-$125 depending on the handle material and all that stuff.

One of these days in your travels, a guy is going to show you a brand-new deck of cards on which the seal is not yet broken. Then this guy is going to offer to bet you that he can make the jack of spades jump out of this brand-new deck of cards and squirt cider in your ear. But, son, do not accept this bet, because as sure as you stand there, you're going to wind up with an ear full of cider.

I like the third pin that acts as a saftey to keep the razor from going too far open when used as a knife. Nice work, good idea!
