I just saw this in an ebay ad:
5th International
Shaving Collectibles Meeting October 18-19, 2008
West Chester, Ohio, USA
Anybody have any info on this event? I isn't too far from home for me but far enough I dont just want to waste gas and time.

5th International Shaving Collectibles Meeting
Hi,
The 5th International Shaving Collectibles Meeting will be held this year in West Chester, Ohio, just north of Cincinnati, on October 18-19. It is dedicated to collectors of all shaving memorabilia, including straight razors, safety razors, shaving mugs, blade banks, stroppers, advertising, razor blades, and more.
Attendees sell, swap, buy, hear selected short talks, and speak to others who share their passion for collecting. This year's meeting will give emphasis to the collecting of vintage razors from the 50s and 60s, such as the Gillettes and Schicks. In addition there will be a talk on the AutoStrop Razors and the Rolls Razors.
We have people attending who have particular interests in straight razors. In fact, the other year we heard a great presentation on them.
I have organized these meetings since 2004. If you would like more info about the meetings, please respond to this posting or contact me at quailrunner@cinci.rr.com

Very cool, Jerry. Thank you for posting information. I know you can't predict the number of straight razor collectors in the upcoming event, but can you give a few more details about the number of straight razor collectors and swappers you have seen from prior meets?
I've road tripped to Ohio in the past, and if there was great potential for a significant number of straight razor collectors I would consider taking a trip this year. Safety razors do not interest me so if it was primarily safety razor collectors with a very small number of straight razor users, I'd have to think more carefully about making the trek from Minnesota.
Thanks Jerry.

I plan on going as it is about 15 minutes away from me. I saw a post over at B&B for the meet.

5th International Shaving Collectibles Meeting
It's a little early to know exactly who will be attending this year's Shaving Collectibles Meeting and, of them, who has a special interest in straight razors. I just sent an email to previous attendees who indicated a special interest in straight razors to see if they are planning to attend this year's meeting.
It's kind of a catch 22 situation: people are reluctant to attend unless they know others sharing similar interests with them will attend. There is reluctance to take the first step to attend unless they know others have registered. I understand where you are coming from and will update you as soon as I know about straight razor people attending. In the meantime, please don't hesitate to ask me any questions you might have about the meeting. Remember, if you are thinking about attending, the special registration fee of $64.95 is only good until July 31; after that date, the fee is $74.95. Spouses are always welcome and encouraged to attend with a registration fee of $20.
More information is available at:
2008 Shaving Collectibles Meeting
Warm regards,
Jerry

I have thought about going the last couple years. This might be a good year to go. Maybe even do a little talk or Q&A, or honing demo, or.........

Hi Lynn,
I visited your Web site and it is very, very well done. I can see that people interested in straight razors and wet shaving would regard it like a kid turned loose in a candy store. Bravo!
The Shaving Collectibles Meeting is strictly for collectors who wish the comaraderie of others with similar interests and who would like to display, swap, or sell their collectibles. As much as I would like you to attend the meeting, it is not for retail vendors wishing to sell new merchandise.
Regards,
Jerry

Jerry, I'm sure Lynn meant that if he went, he'd be going as a collector rather than a vendor. There are probably only a handful of collectors like Lynn in the world that would have the scope similar to the type of collection that he undoubtedly has.

Thanks Chris for the clarification. Then, by all means, I would welcome him with open arms. Right now, we have two people attending who are heavily into straight razors and a few others who have listed them as a secondary interest. Another individual from Iowa with a fantastic straight razor collection who spoke at our gathering two years ago may also be coming. I am encouraging him to give another presentation this year.
What is attractive about these Shaving Collectibles Meetings is that they cater to people with diverse interests in shaving collectibles. One doesn't need to be a straight razor collector to drool over an 1890 Kample safety razor tin with beautiful graphics on it. In other words, it's a good time to broaden one's interests.

The Shaving Collectibles Meeting will feature a couple of presentations on straight razors, will have several people attending who are collectors of straight razors, and will have straight razors on display.
The meeting is sponsored by the International Organization for Shaving Memorabilia (http://www.ShaveWorld.org). This is the 5th year it is being held and is well-received by those attending.
