Me and the wife are planning a trip to London for our 10th anniversary that is coming up in October. I was thinking of getting a shave, a great shave, while there. I have looked at Truefitt & Hill and Trumpers. I have heard that it's probably good to make the appointment in good time.

Have anyone of you any recommendations or suggestions for London... or can share your experience?

You cannot possibly have a bad time in London if you include an excursion to Trumper's in your plans. I have been to their Jermyn Street branch twice & both times been very impressed by the knowledge, courtesy & service of the staff. You may have to book yourself in for a shave, but I am sure they would be able to fit you in if you just turn up. If I may make a suggestion leave your credit card in your hotel. Your lady will thank you. So many pretties. So many pennies

For an absoultely top notch expert luxury shave, visit T&H on St James Street. I've been twice and it is a great experience. There's an older guy there called Jimmy (I think) who hails from Cyprus originally -- when you call to book, make sure you ask for him. He is a master and has been doing this for over 50 years. Great hands and amazing technique. He can come across as a little surly, but as soon as I told him I used a straight he started talking and gave me a 20-minute tutorial on everything from how to shave the top lip to stropping on the hand.

Can't reccomend it enough. And when you finish your shave, you can nip across the road to the original DR Harris. It's a great street to walk down.

The reallly good thing is that T&H & GFT are no more than 400 metres apart. They can both be visited easily without major detours. That part of London, St James', is known as "Clubland". No, not night clubs, but gentleman's clubs. There are streets full of proper old fashioned men's outfitters, shirt & shoe makers. It is where the British style is really found. Of course, if SWMBO objects vocally, you can take a trip up Bond Street, where there are lots of high end ladies shops too!

I agree with the suggestions. Bond Street is something you must experience. London is a fabulous City. Have a great time. You can also get some fine Cuban's in the neighborhood if you so desire!

Thanks! I'm more of a pipe man though, any tips on pipes and pipe tobaccos?

You could try Davidoff, on the corner of Jermyn St & St James St or Fox on St James St. Dunhill used to be good, but I'm not sure if they do pipes & baccy there any more.

I was in London 4 years ago and visited Fox and Dunhill. Fox is a must as it is London's oldest cigar shop, they carry a good selection of pipes and tobacco and you could smoke in their lounge. As for Dunhill,it is more of a luxury goods store than a tobacconist, but they still had a pipe section. It's worth seeing for the impressive expensive pipes and the history. I hope you enjoy your trip!

Probably not anymore. Last year we passed a law banning smoking in any public space indoors, including restaurants, stations, clubs, pubs, bars, etc. Same story across the EU now, though the Netherlands are testing the boundaries with some pretty ingenious workarounds!
