Massachusetts Get Togetha?
OK, per discussion in a high-jacked thread, in the restoration section....before the Y2k-08 crash hit (seemed to be an eight year delay on that! I guess that is what makes it even less expected)....
Where was I?
OH, yes, there seems to be a bit of us present in Ye Ol' New England State of Massatucky, or Massacheusetts. SO, if you are following me, and have not left this posting for something a bit more interesting...
Who's up for a little git together (or get "togetha")?
Honing, repinning, stropping, fancy dremel tricks, etc.........
AND, before I go, this is my contribution to the get-togetha, and am now passing the buck to someone who will actually orchestrate the damn thing

back and better than ever
well my misbegotten thread is gone, but the hope lives. i'd be up for a working or social gtg. no locale ideas for the former, no end of locales for the latter.

Me too! Me too!
Can't do much with the organizing though as I travel all the time.

I am in Boston for a week in March... for St Paddys.....
Admittedly I was planning on seeing the inside of lots of pubs.... but a SRP get together would prob drag me away....

As an ultra noob, I'd love to get some feedback on my honing and stropping technique. I'm definitely interested.

WOW!
We are just crawling out of the woodwork up here in Mass!
Maybe March (St.Patty's day) would be a good time for the get together...
NOW, where could we hold it?
If we make it a summer thing, we could hold it outside!
Anyone have a garage with space?

How about the MIT student center? Very central to town, accessible via bus/subway. Anyone got any contacts there?
I think the biggest problem would be power and light! (I have done trade shows before and these are *ALWAYS* the problems)
And who says we can't then go see the inside of a few pubs? There are quite a few in Faneuil Hall, and that isn't too far away. (Wonder if the Dropkick Murphys are going to do the breakfast again at the Black Rose)

I'd also be interested. Brand new to this hobby so I'll be
observing and asking a lot of questions.

Hi-
The MIT student center would be a great place for the meetup, but it's incredibly difficult to reserve, even for official MIT groups. They book it pretty far in advance, and there's some level of scrutiny as to whether the activity is MIT-related.
Has anyone ever booked a school gym or cafeteria? How does that work?

I guess the biggest thing was making the event accessable and central to Boston. (Public Transport)

Something that would be cool, but maybe not practical,
would be the back room of an old style neighborhood
barbershop. Might set the right tone for the event. If
not, usually an American Legion Post or local union
hall can be had for pretty cheap. Maybe not the prettiest
places but they usually offer "refreshments" if the mood
should strike.

I'm in Rhode Island and depending on schedule, I'd come up. I went to school in Boston. A Public school rather than private might be a better bet, or as Kerryman said, an American Legion or union hall, or what about Knights of Columbus? They rent their halls out for anything.

Sorry, I'm not taking on any more "projects". That means no scales, restoration, honing, you name it. Look for my custom razors in the future though!

I'm definitely interested in attending. Although, for obvious reasons, St. Patrck's Day is not a good day for me. Also, you may want to reconsider meeting in Boston on St. Patrick's Day unless you love parade traffic.
Of course, AROUND 3/17 would be swell. I'm pretty new too, and I would love to sit and chat with you guys. I recommend the Green Briar in Brighton, the Kinvara in Allston or the Black Rose in Boston for watering holes, although I don't think they'd appreciate a bunch of dudes showing up with straight razors.
Maybe they'd be more after-gathering gathering spots...

Don't just think of the student center. While I can't reserve rooms myself, I do go to a couple of groups that use classrooms. They are much easier to get, and there are many different types. I'd suspect we would want one with tables, rather than those desk/chair things.

BRILLIANT! Tables or tiered desks would be great! Especially in that main building. Now, we just need to figure out who can reserve one.
Jim, any one of your groups want to be nice enough to help reserve a room?
