Southern California Straight Razor Get Together - Page 2

I am sorry about the delay in getting the information out, I just wanted to make sure that the date would work before posting something. The Southern California Get-Together will take place on March 30th in in Rancho Palos Verdes. Show up around 12:00 pm at the following address:

28117 Ridgeforest Court
RPV, CA 90275

Based on the feedback it will be a fairly informal event where we will get to meet each other and then see what develops. There are several people interested in a honing lesson so I am going to give a 45 min - 1 hour clinic that will hopefully be taped and posted in the near future. If you want to show, trade, or sell razors then bring those; and if you have any shaving products that you really like then it might be fun to bring those as well so that others can get an idea of what is out there. I will most likely be contacting some vendors to see if they are interested in donating anything for a small raffel but I am not sure if this is going to happen. There are also several people interested in Cigars so I know that there will be some people bringing some good ones. I might ask some people in the local area to bring some food or drink, or I might just get some pizzas/hotdogs etc. from Costco (this is still undecided). Basically we will just see what develops when a bunch of "straight" guys get together. If you have any suggestions and/or questions then feel free to post them.

I'm new so I hope it is ok if I come too! I live in Long Beach and don't have a straight razor yet, but hopefully by the time of the get together I'll have one. Anyone want to bring crappy old razors i could use to practice honing/stropping with? I'll pay cash for a few.

Also, I'll try to bring some scotch (since I don't know anything about cigars). Any requests?

Sergio just told me that Gio from Typhoon will be donating some shaving soaps/creams to sample/raffel off at the event. I am going to contact a few more vendors and see if they would like to donate anything or send us any samples.

I recently became a fan of tryphon products, and after seeing how aprochable and nice was the owner (Gio) i decided to tell him about the get together and see if he would help us out and become one of the sponsors, he jumped in right away and offer some of his products to raffle at the get together.

I just got word from Bill Ellis that he wont be able to attend due to vacation with the missus and it being her birthday and all, but he is willing to give 50 dollars off anything on his site to the winner of a raffle, straw drawing, or what have you!
I wish you all the best of luck, but don't hold your breath as I plan on being the winner!

Hello, I am a new member but would love to join you all for this meeting if that is ok (not sure if this is for a regular group, or are newbies to the scene ok). I just received my first straight razor and accessories, and am very interested in learning more about technicques such as honing.

It's too bad that he won't be able to make it but that was very generous for him to make the donation. I was just looking through his website and there is definately some cool stuff that I have my eye on: http://www.billysblades.com/

Great news, Will from classicshaving.com is going to try to attend the event and might bring some of his friends. Whether he can make it or not, he has decided that he would like to donate some shaving stuff for the drawing! I am not sure about you guys, but I am starting to get excited!
