UK get together!
This has rumbled around the 'Newbies' section for quite a while now and needed either pushed or buried. It's getting pushed!
The title explains all, the venue was thought best to be midlands area - maybe Castle Donington, very handy for East Midlands airport (Ryanair return from Inverness £30 on a good day!). Time yet to be decided but probably best into summer and venue to be found. I have offered to locate a venue, get prices and do a fair bit of the organising - it's in my interest because I have things I want to learn apart from socialising of course! And I like distractions from my real work...
What is needed is an idea of who would be interested but also importantly a few offers of demos etc. - a honing workshop, collections, perhaps a couple of pics of members favourite razors to put on a powerpoint and we can all relate why it's the best! Restoration basics etc. From this angle we really need senior members willing to come along and impart their knowledge. Just a couple of seniors jumping on the wagon would really help to get it going.
So - offers of 'on the day' wee demos please if poss. An indication of support otherwise and after, that if it seems like a go-er, I can pin down either a hall or hotel etc and get prices and dates in order to finalise through a poll. Evening entertainment for overnighters will obviously be crucial and no expense (time) will be spared in finding the best pubs and the best grub to round it off.
cheers
Stephen

Count me in Stephen, though it will depend on the day and if I can fit work around it.

How about Euro members?
The Scottish vote is firming up! Just thought that it is probably as cheap for some of our Euro members to jump on a plane to East Midlands. Belgium, Netherlands etc. Now there are a good few old hands just across the water that could show us a few things...any takers?

Will do for sure. There's bound to be a skatepark around there somewhere
From what I understand this will most likely take place near the end of the summer.
If that's the case then I can DEFINATELY combine my vacation and the get-together.
I'll do a coticule demonstration for those who're interested.

Count me as interested. In fact consider me as interested in finding out ANYTHING about honing!

You should know that Alex suggested a 'shave off'. I'll check the Castle Donington British Red Cross group availability!
Support is rising!

I'm in (dates permitting).
I can't do a demo (no good at straight shaving yet) but I'd bring along my little selection of Mama Bear soaps for smell testing - maybe some other creams and stuff.

I'm in. Unfortunately I'd probably take more than I could give as my experience is limited to Dec 07 onwards. I'd bring my razors, and a positive attitude, though.

Hey - I am only doing this cos I'm on the take! The only thing anybody would get from me is how not to do it and a good laugh!! Great that there are already a couple of folk with experience willing to contribute.

It depends.
I am going to visit a friend in London, somewhere in August probably.
Is there already a suggested region to do this thing?
If I can get there easily from London, then I could perhaps arrange my visit so that I can attend.
If not, then I will probably be a no-show.

A venue has to be chosen and I looked at Castle Donington as very much in the middle of the country and very close to a small airport. It is less than two and a half hours by car from London. No hall or location has been booked there as yet but August may well suit many people. I expect the next stage will be to find some meeting alternatives, get some dates together and put up a poll for finalising. The more the merrier.

I might be able to make it. Sorry I can't be more definite but my new job takes me all over the UK at a moments notice, and I never know more than a week in advance where I'll be.
I'll keep an eye on the thread though, and if I'm close enough when the meet happens I'll try and make it - no promises though!
I can't bring many nice razors etc though, I sold most of my exotica a while back along with my hones - so I just have a small set of razors and a paddle strop now!
It'd be nice if it was at a time/place that Alex and Bruno could make it too.
