1st Southern California Straight Razor Get Together Pictures – 1
I am going to start towards the end of the day so that you guys can put some names and faces to the members that you know on the forum. From left to right:
Matt (mvforza)
Scott (honedright)
Mark (JMS)
David (heavydutysg135)
Sergio (sergiobruna)
Jerad (nickelking)
Rob (rpatton)
King (hefledthescene)
Tony (richardhead) had to leave a little before this picture was taken, but he will show up in the others.
Here is Scott showing some of his vintage shaving gear while I grab some more beer (hey that rhymes). There is Tony (richardhead) on the far left.
My dad cooking the hotdogs and hamburgers
Sergio talking with his hands as usual
Mark and Scott touching my Tam and Eschers with food on their hands. Gotcha!
Is it something I said?

Some of the Toys
HAD...Who me?
Some of Tony's beautiful razors...in a Zeepk case. Don't ask
When Mark showed up we had to get him his own table. Here is the first box that he brought....only partially unloaded. Pretty much everyone had that "deer in the headlights look" when he was putting them on the table.
Here are some more of his vintage razors.
Yep, those are Mark's too
Well Mark, those are some really nice razors; but if I had to choose only one razor to shave with for the rest of my life then it would probably have to be Tony's vintage 6/8 Genco round roint....with baby pink scales. I would love to know the history behind that one, then again maybe some questions are better left a mystery lol.

Honing Clinic
Here are some shots from the honing clinic which ended up lasting 2 hours. Jerad video taped the whole thing and I am in the process of editing it to post in the near future. We covered all of what I consider to be the "fundamentals" of honing including stone selection, technique, sharpness tests, honing a dull eBay razor from scratch, double bevels, touch-ups etc.. We also went over some advanced topics like technique for honing smiling and warped razors. Look out for the video in the next two weeks.
Technique
Theory
Hands on experience learning how to perform sharpness tests and assess progress throughout the different stages in the honing progression
Sergio showing us his excellent honing technique while completely removing a double bevel on the 4K before moving on to the polishing stages.
Just give me something sharp and and a stone to sharpen it on and I can entertain a bunch of straight razor guys for over two hours. This picture was taken a little over an hour into the demonstration...right before my dad literally started snoring in his lazyboy recliner next to us in the living room (by the back window). This was clearly caught on tape so everyone can enjoy the humor when it's posted. He has a nice razor but has not shaved with it yet.

Random Shots
Sergio showing the camera how to shave with an 8+/8 full wedge. It might not be as intimidating as the pink Genco, but then again what is?
Scott and I started off showing our stropping technique and then ended up in race. He did two passes for every one of mine. Maybe after I get 29 more years of experience I can give him a run for his money.
Mirror mirror on the wall...
My good friend Sergio with me as I loose my cigar virginity.
Just winding down at the end of a great day with some good friends. I think these pictures pretty much tell the story. That's what it's all about!
Till next time...
David

Sorry Matt, had to choose the few photos where I looked at least decent which didn't give me a whole lot to choose from

I wonder if ketchup, mustard, and relish would make a good lubricant for gettin that little bit extra out of the edge

I "won" one of the two Art of Shaving Kits that I donated to the raffle, then decided to give it to King because I already had one for myself. Sergio got the other AOS kit and ended up trading with Mark since he already had a few of them.
