I've now heard two requests for Saturday the 19th. This will work for me. For any of you able to come on the 20th, would going with the 19th ruin it for you? If not I say we move it over to the 19th. The more the merrier!

i am Christian non-denominational. i go to a bible church.

i agree that you have to cater to the masses. so whichever date you get more of, the better.

i say no on renting the room. i don't know this place, and not sure of the setting, but is this the best that we got? 2 hours will not work. it usually takes us 30 min just to say hello, and another 30 to try to leave. that does not give a lot of time for demos or show and tell. last dallas meet, john crowley spent what seemed like an hour just honing a razor for me.

just concerns. i am not in a place to make any suggestions since i do not live there. hopefully everything works out. i love austin. cool city. i am sure the place will be fine, just take a chance on the patrons with blades out and about.

The deal with renting the room is that we would be able to bring drinks and food, and the room would be reserved for us alone. After the reservation time we would not be kicked out, but rather all drinks would need to be from texspresso and other patrons would be welcome to sit in our area. I don't think we're suggesting that the meetup be limited to two hours, just that we reserve two hours in order to be able to have some beers and kind of "stake our claim" to the area so that we won't have to be worried about being able to find enough tables together. If we're already there as a group, while someone might come take a table in a corner, when our time is up no one is likely to come in and disrupt the group.

I suggested Texspresso partially for all the space (and it's not super-busy), but also partly for everything that's nearby that we can make use of. In the same complex there is a Fudruckers, an Indian restaurant, a Zen (healthy Japanese fast food), an Alamo Drafthouse (along with its bar), a CVS, and a good pipe/cigar shop. I figured this combination would make sure there's a little bit of something for everyone, and so that after the demos folks could spend some time getting to know each other over their favorite beverage/food/smoke.

Bump....

Please weigh in, does the 19th work for you, or would a change to the 19th be disastrous for you?

Hey everyone,
+1 on the weigh in. Either day works fine for me.

Let's get it together!

Default As much as I would love to...

I'm not going to make it to this one. The hassle of scheduling being out of town on a weekend is just too much. As some of you may remember from setting up the DFW meetup, I work weekends and that is when I make the bulk of my money each week, so missing a Saturday or a Sunday or both is hard to plan and make up. There is so much I want to learn and ask people in person and if I hadn't found a honemeister within 10-15 miles of me yesterday, I'd probably make it happen just to put some of my worries at ease. I'll make this promise - if I win or inherit $1000 or more in the next week or two, I'll be there.

For those of you closer to the dallas are, send me a PM if you are interested in having razors professionally honed. I think he charges 25 bucks, but you get it back the same day and there's no shipping to deal with. I'm an instant gratification guy, so this suits me. He's been honing since 1949 when he learned from a master who had been born in 1860. His name is Franz. Need I say more?

Have fun guys - I'll be in touch if something changes...

Adam

OK,
I just looked back through the whole thread and I think Saturday the 19th is going to give everyone who has responded thus far the best opportunity to make it. I will send a pm to Doc this afternoon to tell him the date so he can get it on the SRP calendar as he mentioned earlier, so if there are any last minute objections to that, speak now. I guess we should give it a couple more weeks to recruit more attendees, then we can make a final call on the room. Looking back on the thread, we seem to have five solid and a couple of maybes.

Excellent. David, set it all up. Shall we say 1:00 like we were planning for Sun? I've requested to be off work by 11:00 on the 19th. We will reserve the room for a couple of hours to make sure we have enough tables close together. During that time you can bring your own drinks. Once that time is up we will not have to leave, but the room will be accessible to other patrons too, and we will need to purchase our food and drinks. Cost should be $50 all together, so bring a few bucks will you and we'll split that cost.

David, please correct me if any of that is incorrect.

Last call! Any requested changes?

Hey guys,
It looks like this thing is picking up steam! We have five confirmed so far, Davisbonanza, foundlingofdollar, Kenrup, statsdr, and blaireu. We have three maybes, Jockyes, vgod, and tecate. I know some of you are coming from Dallas so you guys should talk amongst yourselves and arrange some sort of carpool. Also if you Dallas folk know of anyone who attended at yalls meet-up and have not chimed in here and may want to come, let them know the plan. As I said in a previous post, I will wait a couple of weeks to make the room reservation so more folks have time to RSVP. Personally, I am willing to chip in a little more on that as I will not be paying for extra gas. One last item, our event is on the calendar on the front page here at SRP and there is a link to the map to Texspresso there.

Cheers!

By way of bumping this thread up (so hopefully more will see it and come to Austin), let's take a basic head count. Count off if you will be there, let us know if you might be able to show up, and if you're interested in carpooling, post a general location.

Any advice on how we should run the giveaway of door prizes? Kenrup said he might bring something, and I'm picking something up from Scotty.

We can do the good ol' stand by. Everybody put there names into a hat and have one of the wait staff pull out the names.
