Default Spydeco Ultrafine Hone

I'll just post this again as it took a dive into the wide blue yonder.
I bought one of these hones after reading Joels comments on the B&B forum.I already own the fine& medium bench hones & med /fine pocket hone.
I got mine from ,www.axminster.co.uk. They are a tool co that have a very good web site & postal service in the UK.
I put my shave ready Wapi that was sharpened to my usual standard on It for about 20 laps on each side .The shave I got from it was amazing my Wapi's never been that sharp.
So to sum up this is ahone that I would recomend to everyone, its moved my sharpening skills up another notch & more of my razors are going to see it.
It cost me £49.27+p&p which is very reasonable.
Paul

I use it as my finishing stone, after the Norton 8K, works well for me.

I know it's finer than a Norton 8k but how does it compare to the Chinese 12k? Anybody know? I saw that Robt Williams said that under the scope the Spyderco left the smoothest scratch pattern that he has seen. How does that compare to the sharpness of the 12k - any ideas?

I took a look at the spyderco UF that someone brought to the party last weekend, and it would seem to be as smooth or perhaps a tad smoother than my brown swaty.

i have no clue what grit the swaty is. but the uf and the swaty are both MUCH smoother under the scope than my chinese 8k waterstone

I have both the Spyderco and the Chinese 12K. They seem to give about the same polished edge but the Spyderco cuts about twice as fast. You don't need as many strokes to get the same edge. I like the Spyderco the best but I wish it was a 3".

Interesting guys. I'm sure I am going to pick up a Spydie but I stopped by Woodcraft in Fort Worth and got their Chinese 12k for $19.99!

The edges so far, seem very, very smooth - and you're right - waaaay slow cutting.

http://www.tzknives.com/razorhones.html <---This has a very nice comparison of some of the most common hones and the results under magnification.
