i found this info at www.perfume4u.co.uk
Useful Perfume & Fragrance Information ...
PERFUME
This is the extract or extrait of a fragrance and represents the scent in its purest form. This often creates a smooth and round texture, which is hard to achieve with the dilution represented in the other concentrations of fragrance.
EDP
Eau de Parfum or EDP is one of the most popular forms of fragrance. Eau de Parfum contains between seven to fourteen per cent of fragrance oils and perfume elixirs and is the second strongest, and longest lasting means of wearing a fine fragrance.
EDT
Eau de Toilette or EDT is fast becoming the most common means of wearing a fragrance or perfume. EDT’s are not as highly concentrated in oils and elixirs as an EDP or Perfume would be and contain one to three per cent of fragrance oils. This impacts the ability of the fragrance to last and around eighty percent of the oils in an EDT fragrance will evaporate within three hours of application.
EDC
Eau de Cologne’s or EDC’s were first popularised by Napoleon. These fragrances are often constructed in a different manner to the traditional French Model and are formulated in one single burst. As a result of this process, EDC’s or Eau de Colognes last the least amount of time on the skin and can dissolve within a couple of hours. EDC’s should be worn as a invigorating spray.
AFTERSHAVE
Aftershave or Aftershave Lotions tend to be a more traditional means for men to wear fragrances. Aftershaves often contain a lot less alcohol because they are directly applied to the skin. This lack of alcohol content also makes their ability to last diminish and as a result Aftershaves should be used more as a fragrant, energising tonic than a fragrance.

One of my ex's used to wear Marks & Spencer Body Spray Florentyna Body Spray - Marks & Spencer I loved it when she did; god she used to smell amazing! I know the same scent can smell different depending on the person (body chemistry - whatever that is?) and I don't know any other women who use it well enough to tell if I would like it just as much on someone else.

My wife's favorite is Amor Amor by Cacharelle. I bought a bottle for her when we were dating and she was very surprised. She'd never like any of the scents anyone had given her but LOVED this one. So she'll always keep a bottle of it for as long as it's available.
She's also a big fan of the Sandalwood by Trumpers...butthat one's mine.....and it's a nono for her to use it.

I just gave a can of Dragon's Tears to my son in law and I thought it didn't smell enough! Thats what cigarette smoking does to your smeller.

For me:
Creed Tabarome (vintage) for the office
Ralph Lauren Polo Double Black for nights out
L'eau d'Issey (original) for weekends
For Her:
Fruits & Passion Vanilla Lemon for work (Nursing Assistant)
Creed Virgin Island Water for nights out
Mamma Bear Vanilla Musk for weekends and misc (stole it from me, LOL)
We both have more scents, but these are the standard ones. I list 3 each because what's good for the office is not necessarily good for the tennis court or the boudoir.
Cheers

I'm more of an old fashioned guy. I like Old Spice a/s or cologne (the original scent) and the last week or so I've discovered Ogallala Bay Rum which I really like. Nothing like an eye patch and bay rum to bring out the pirate in a guy.
As for gifts, I dunno, I've not been in the position of having to buy anyone perfume. When I was dating I would give the young lady flowers At this pint in life I seriously doubt I'll have to worry about a significant other.

I just received my bottle of Ogallala Bay Rum.. I'm looking forward to my next shave now. I discovered that smell when I bought a cake of bay rum soap from Chelsea's Garden.
The bottle smells great.. I never really liked the musks and all that jazz. I remember my grandmother used to buy me brut every christmas from when I was 12 until my mid 20's (and I made those bottles disappear)
I almost want to break my routine and shave tomorrow (I usually shave every other day).

I just got mine today as well. Last week I was using a trial size. Which size did you order? I picked up the humongous 17.5 oz bottle. One added benefit to OBR, that cobalt blue bottle sure looks neat in among the other bottles and brushes. I remember the aftershave and colognes for Christmas as well, (English Leather and or Avon Wild Country). Mine didn't getused too much lol.

This pint in life, what a strangely apt descriptor for so many of us . I'd have to say I'm on about the third pint of my life. It's nothing new for me, and I'm starting to feel nice and mellow, but I'm not sick yet.

Actually I live too close to Arkansas and Missouri, it's that good ol' Southernese........
well, it sounded good, actually, my keyboard won't let me type nearly as fast as my fingers want to go, so I get a ton of errors and run spell check, it just thought pint was legit lol.

I'm with you, Kees (and Lillith to a lesser degree), on the distaste of other people's fragrances. Even being a smoker, certain scents can send me into a sneezing fit or a migraine - even nausea. I say to a lesser extent Lillith because I don't mind alcohol smells, but a lot of fruit and floral smells set me off. I know it's not perfume, but the smell of a Now And Later when someone is eating one - and many other artificially-flavored fruit candies - can bring me to my knees. I can't wear cologne at all because of that napalm-effect Kees was describing where it transfers and won't go away. It sticks to everything. I find if it ever ends up on my hands, then it invariably ends up near my nose or eyes and then there goes my day.
And now, for the kicker... I'm a massage therapist. I have literally plotted the murders of 1 or 2 clients a week on a bad month because I'm trapped in a little room with a person(usually a woman - sorry ladies - I do massage more women than men, though) who virtually bathed in their perfume and I have to touch them. I've almost quit a couple of times. We use this massage product called Biofreeze which is similar in effect to Icy Hot or Bengay and smells heavily of menthol, so when I get a stinky person (perfume or B.O. - this one is more often the men... I massage at a place that's right next to a gym), I slather them with Biofreeze and it typically overpowers my ability to smell anything but mint. I've heard that forensic investigators and medical examiners use Vick's Vapo-Rub under each nostril to kill their sense of smell for X amount of time and had considered it until we got the biofreeze. Sorry for the ramble.
The only scents you will smell on me are my deodorant (shower clean scented Degree), Ogallala Bay Rum shaving soap (soon to be Bay Rum and Sandalwood) when it lingers and Dawn dishwashing liquid which I use to wash my hands. Right now I use an unscented aftershave lotion I don't recommend the Dawn if you're worried about your hands feeling dry. If I didn't have my hands covered in moisturizers all day, it would be an issue. That said Kees, you might try that next time you get "infected" by someone - it removes virtually every scent that ends up on my hands.
Happy sniffing...
Adam

I'm one of those rarities here as well I think. I wear no cologne. I also am sensitive to scents as I've rarely liked the perfume or cologne that others have worn. I'm in sales, and rule #1 is: Don't stink. As part of that rule, what may be a pleasant scent to me and those I'm close to, may smell awful to a prospective client. I'm there to gain clients.
One guy I hired about 5 years ago poured on cologne so strongly I could literally taste it (no joke), and his cologne would fill an entire room for hours after he was gone. He lasted two weeks.
I rub the alum block under my arms after each shave and shower and occasionally I'll put a dab of pure lime essential oil (that I use in my home made pre-shave oil) under my arms which is almost not noticeable and has a very low probability of being offensive to even sensitive people.

My two favourite sents are Chanel's Coco and Sisley's Soir de Lune. Both are Eau de Parfum.
I let you admire the beauty of the Soir de Lune's bottle cap
There are two other fragrances I would like trying: Penhaligon's Elisabethan Rose and Jean Desprez' Bal à Versailles.

For me:
Czech and Speake, No #88
Armand Basi, In blue
No missus at the moment so I can't comment.
I am thinking about getting a more "olde world scent" for the next aftershave/cologne

From left to right:
- Diptyque's Essence of John Galliano is a room spray. Yep, even our house needs its own classy fragrance! (Never try it on your skin!)
- Chanel's Egoïste: if I had to keep only one EDT in an island because of any nuke explosion or whatever you say, it would be this one! A male absolute classic! Ladies, if you want to surprisingly please your husband, offer him an Egoïste bottle! You can never be wrong with it! Gentlemen, if you want to surprisingly please your SWMBO, offer her a Soir de Lune bottle (the EDP mentioned by Meeme in her above post). Well, in both cases, there is one person that will not be pleased at all: your banker!!!
- Thierry Mugler's A*Men: I have never smelled such a strong EDT! The male variant of famous Angel EDP. Its woody and fiery notes are very heady! I am pretty sure that Kees would hate it and I easily understand that some people may not like A*Men. But personnally, I'm done!
- Thierry Mugler's A*Men Pure Coffee: (sadly) a limited edition of the previous one. As you can guess, it has a strong coffee note -and is as heady as its regular counterpart.
- Trivia: you can see in the picture my Steel Angel's vinyl LP, an obscure 80's French Heavy Metal act from whom I took my username. It pretty fits to SRP and I guess that every member here considers her/his straight razors as... her/his steel angels.
Thank you for your attention!
Postscript: please have a look at this brilliant 90's Chanel commercial for Egoïste EDT.

My favorites...
I like Mont Blanc Presence for formal occasions (it is similar in some notes to Angel).
For everyday, I absolutely love demeter's single note fragrance Grapefruit Tea.
It is just plain fresh grapefruit citrus that is very light and hardly there like a cold cloud.
For after the shave, I have Ogalalla Bay Rum and two variants: Limes and Peppercorn, and the Shave Den scent.
For extremely special occasions, I have a very small amount of The Gentleman's Quarter 20% Cavendish Black. I count the days until it is commercially available (BTW HAPPY B-Day Colleen!)
Here they are in all their glory:
