Well Ladies and Gents we know what we like to wear, so how about what we smell like?

Do you wear the same perfume all the time or do you have a few to suit the occasion or your mood?

And Gents, what do you buy for your Ladies, do you have any favourites?

Currently I have Truefitt&Hill 1805 cologne, which isn't too bad. But my next cologne will be House of Creed's Green Irish Tweed (GIT). I got a bunch of House of Creed decants, and they all smell absolutely lovely! I had someone smell GIT, and she said if I ever wore it, she would rape me, because it smelt that good. Expensive stuff though, about $100/ml.

I try to use the same scent all the time. Scents tend to stay in our memory, and I utilize this fact. By wearing the same scent, you can store a bunch of memories and associate it with that scent. So far my theory seems to work. I gave one of my sweatshirts I wore a lot (has my scent) to a girl. She wears it from time to time. When she does, the scent brings back good memories, and she misses me dearly. We're apart right now due to summer vacation, so it's a nice little thing for her to remmeber me by.

My current rotation is Fendi Life Essence, YSL L'Homme and Penhaligon Opus 1870. The Fendi's been my everyday scent for some time now, it continues to be my favorite and gets the most compliments.

All perfume smells like alcohol to me, and that's a scent I hate. I like the scent of human... no need to cover it up with artificial stuff.

I regularly wear Kenneth Cole Signature. I love woodier scents. When I want something sweeter I usually wear the very helpfully named "Cologne" by Thiarry Muglar.

How can it smell like alcohol? The alcohol is only a carrier and will evaporate quickly. That's actually why alcohol is used as the carrier, and why it's used for cleaning computer components. If it smells like alcohol maybe the person who was wearing it put it on right before seeing you. Plus, the more expensive colognes are made with natural oils, so it doesn't smell artificial at all. That's why I go for T&H or Creed instead of something like Davidoff's Cool Water.

Fendi looks like a cologne I could get into. It has a lot of the fragrance notes I look for. Just needs more wood..

I seem to be very sensitive to scents. I've had to ask partners to stop wearing cologne/perfume, change brands of aftershave and deodorant, and not try to kiss me within an hour or two of having had a drink with alcohol in it. I can still smell it, and it turns my stomach.

I'm also strange in that I hate the smell of flowers (another reason why most EdTs don't appeal to me). All of my soaps and lotions have fruit scents, because that seems to be the only group of smells that I actually like. (But no cherry... smells like cough medicine.)

I'm picky.

Hmm... intruiging. I always thought I had a very good sense of smell. I use 90% isopropyl to clean my CPU since it evaporates so quickly. Ethanol evaporates even faster and has a fainter smell, which is why it's the choice of carriers in colognes and perfumes...

maybe it's the oils you're smelling not so much the alcohol? Same thing with the adult beverages?

So what do you think of EDC's from the citrus/fruity family? The colognes I tend to like are mainly from the citrus/fruity family with a tiny hint from the wood family, and maybe a dab from the floral family.

Hi Silver,

Interesting subject. I am not a perfume person at all. I don't like to smell my own perfume so I use after shave balm that has a weak scent and use as little deodorant as possible.
I don't like heavily perfumed people, occasionally a floral scent does increase the attractiveness of an already attractive lady to me.

Many perfumes have a sickening undertone that is very prominent in Vanderbilt body lotion and that lingers on after the other scents have evaporated.

I really HATE people who have a perfumed hand. As a doctor I shake 60+ hands a day and occasionally someone's perfume "contaminates" my hand. I always try to wash it off but invariably it is too sticky. This spoils my appetite for the day because every time I take a bite this awful smell on my hand spoills it for me.

If I ever feel I have to give someone a perfume I try and find out what they like.

I am afraid you'll think I am not romantic, and I guess you're not on your own, my wife thinks so as well.

Any suggestions how to remove someone's perfume from my hand?

I've never smelled a cologne/perfume I liked. Of the scented body products I use, my shaving soap is peach-vanilla, my deodorant is vanilla-chai, and my lotion has a vague chocolate scent. No florals, no woods, no musk... my sweetie has Mama Bear's "Dragon Tears" soap, and I don't even like that. It's too sharp.

I'm more an after shave guy. Musgo Real and Proraso after shave splash are favorites with Dominica Bay Rum always avaliable for Fridays.
My wife settled on Channel #5 long ago. Makes it easy.

Wash with lots of soap and water and apply heat and light? I guess after you wash with a lot of soap and water you're suppose to dry with a halogen light that's been on for a long time and uses more than 100W? Actually I would think you'd wash with an oil-based soap to dissolve the fragrance oils.

Hmm, I see.

I wouldn't necessarily say you're picky. That's just your preference. Just like my preference is a strong influence of citrus/fruity family, some woods, and a bit of floral. I don't mind no perfumes either, a lot of the girls I'm around don't wear perfumes.

Lilith everyone has different tastes, don't worry. I had an ex like it years ago who didn't like me wearing anything.

I'm giving Mama Bears Pearberry and Tahitian Vanilla a try, both seem to be mainly fruity with hints of florals.

Hi Dr Kees. I guess in an environment where you come across large groups of people constantly parading a whaft of different scents it would be quite nauseating. I think Berticus' idea of an oil-based soap is a viable idea.

Berticus I like woody, musky, fruity and floral. I was also seriously tempted by Mama's Turkish Mocha too, ummmmmm coffee...............

OK guys: what's the difference between: eau de cologne, eau de toilette, eau de parfum and perfume? Oh, and don't tell me the first 3 are French names for bottles of scent. As I don't like scents very much I always like to think eau de toilette is French for toilet water.

When I use anything which is very seldom, I use Obsession which my wife loves. Once in a great while she wears some type of musk scent. Since neither of us wear it very often it tends to lead us to distraction

BTW Kees, I know this will sound crazy but try peanut butter. I use to use it to get gas smell off my hands and get rid of the taste of gas many years ago. Something about siphon hoses I seem to remember
sounds nuts but it worked for me. Rub the PB in and then wash with soap and water

Doesn't sound nuts at all. PB&J contains peanut oil. Remember like dissolves like, so anything with oil will dissolve oils.

I currently use Acqua Di Parma, just emptied my bottle of YSL L'homme which i liked alot. As for aftershaves i use Old Spice and have a bottle of Musgo classic on order.
For my girlfriend i like the Agent Provocateur perfume.
