not sure what i was thinking but...
i went and said yes. i think it was perhaps the lovely scent of Susie's Bubbles Citrus and Sage soap combined with one of my favorite scents, almond, that made me do it. Whatever it was it happened. There was Bob Darling shaving away at my..ahem..coochie with the DE when He nonchalantly tells me "Hmmm. That's better but I'll need to use the straight to really clean it up. Are you ok with that?" Without batting an eye i simply replied yes. It was only after it was said and done did i start to breath heavily and wonder out loud what i had agreed to. i believe it was more like "Oh MY GOD! What the he## just happened?!?!?" A day later it's a bit prickly , but that i think was due to the fact that i wasn't breathing much while it was going on. Bob Darling wanted to make sure i would survive my first ever straight shave.
BTW, hi everyone! i'm sno, CactusBob's wife/mate/better half. i use a DE. love it! could never go back to the disposables.

Don't let her fool you tho, she did great. The small blade razor I resto'd worked very well. The length is about perfect. Its nice to have a weekend with the kids at Grandma's!!
Now I just need to get her to move to straights full time

Don't! If she gets bitten by the RAD bug she'll need a budget of her own!

Lucky me that she's not a collector. I started her shooting she found a nice little 32 H & R Magnum that she loves. She'll shoot mine but doesn't want any others for her own. With the DE, I gave her one she liked and she doesn't want any more. I've already given her a straight so I should be good there, I'll keep the RAD for me
About the only thing she collects is crystals as in the rock variety. She has spheres, points, etc. so I try to encourage her with that. Of course some of those cost as much as some of the new straights I've seen.

One day she'll start collecting diamonds, when she realises they are no more than carbon crystals.

It's like this at our house. I don't bug her about her ongoing tea pot, and quarter bear collecting and she doesn't bug me about my SSAD. At worst she refers to my shave den as nothing more than a "man makeup salon"

Welcome Sno!
Glad you had a great first experience. Maybe I can talk my wife into the same treatment. Only problem is that I don't have a short razor to work with...

wow! thanks for all the warm welcomes!
diamonds..hmmm..i am one of the rare women who feel that diamonds are not a girl's best friend, but i won't go into what is.
funny thing about all this is, knives scare the bejeebers outa me and watchin Bob Darling shave for the third time (i couldn't bring myself to watch sooner) with a straight scared me even more! but being shaved with one was actually kind of cool. no body parts went missing, no mishaps...i think next time i'll trying breathing and actually relaxing.

That's the whole point of straight shaving, it shouldn't be a stressful rushed chore to shave. There was a time when pretty much all men had beards, and only the few wealthy enough to own razors could be clean shaven on a daily basis. as razors became affordable, a man's razor was a status symbol, a nice razor was like a fancy car by today's standards. and the shave was still a luxury...
Then came the DE, the Trac2, and finally the Mach3 DE's were almost as good as a straight, they were fast, but not as comfortable. The Trac2 was even faster, but nowhere near as close or comfortable as a DE, Mach3 actually refers to the feeling of razor burn your skin gets after using it.
We gave up comfort to look good, without realising that we were turning a luxurious social activity into a nasty chore.
We gave up our barber shops (by far the best manly social halls) for salons, and we started using cheap disposable lawnmowers to butcher our faces and torture ourselves.
Most women didn't shave until around WW1 or WW2 When cloth was needed for the war effort, and women sacrificed their dresses for the cause, and finally showed some leg. Before then if a woman was shaving herself it was probably for hygenic reasons.
They also started out when the DE was blossoming, so most likely never experienced the pure luxury of a straight razor shave.
Sno, My advice to you is to go to Mama-Bears, and get yourself a nice variety of shave soaps, a nice badger brush, that's your own (if you don't already have these things) and find something comfortable that you can sit/perch on while being shaved... and make this a routine just like getting your hair or nails done. As the shaves go on, they will get closer, longer lasting, and smoother.
This is something that can be done as a spa treatment, as well as together time between you and your significant other. Given a little time and practice, you may try shaving his face with a straight.
I can think of very few things a couple can do together that shows, and strengthens their faith in each other as much as a straight shave.

great advice Mike, thank you. i intend to do just that and Bob agrees with me (for a change!). We already have a nice Badger and Mama Bear's is my next soap shopping stop! i do know that i will be shaved more often then i get my hair and nails done. i think my last hair cut was in October. i won't mention when my last manicure/pedicure was done professionally. Bob usually does my nails between mani/pedi. His way of pampering me.
Every woman (and man!) should have a mate who is willing to pamper them and let themselves be pampered back. i agree with you Mike; it is a great bonding experience that is so unappreciated in this rush and hurry world, where everything is done faster than a New York minute.
thanks again!

How about a razor with diamond inlayed cocobolo scales. Hmm, I have a diamond brand razor in my project box somewhere, maybe some rhinestone inlayed resin coated scales go with it…
