Silver's First Shave!!
Good afternoon Ladies and Gents
I finally did my first shave, wooohoooo!!!!!!!!! Target area was my legs, time taken was about an hour. Had a nice long soak in the tub first, washed my mop too. I would like to say a big thank you to Spike who sat with me as I can be a little heavy handed so he made sure I wasn't about to take half my calf off!
I used Mama Bear's Pearberry shaving soap, very nice thick lather and smelt wonderful.
First I did my right leg, sitting on the toilet with my foot up on the side of the bath, went against the grain from the off as that is usually how I shave my legs. I had 3 nicks when I finished which is where the point got me because I wasn't careful enough.
When I did my left leg I tried it standing up with my foot propped on the bath. Though this was the better position I did squish my boob a couple of times so had to, ummmm rearrange slightly. Only 2 nicks on the left leg!! Woohooo!! 5 nicks in total and I'm more than happy with that for a first attempt as I always cut myself using a disposable anyway.
Spike used Allum on my nicks, I usually don't bother using anything after I nick myself. And finally followed up with my Lush moisturiser.
I wasn't long out of the bath and one of the neighbours dropped by so I couldn't help but show her how smooth a shave I just had. Within seconds she was complaining how her disposable shave had left her legs feeling all stubbly whereas mine were smooth, hehehe
Ok, I'll admit I wimped out around the knee area. I just didn't trust myself to do it. Gave them a light pass but hardly took any hair off at all. I'm sure Spike will be posting his opinion as soon as I relinquish the PC.
All in all, I'm impressed and enjoyed it thouroghly. Spike and I now have a deal. As soon as I can do around the ankles and knees without nicking myself I can have a go of his face.

YEA SILVER !!! Great job! Welcome to world of straight razors with your fate in your own hand! Congratulations on a job well done! You got a smooth shave with no major bloodletting, so I'd say it was a definite success. I was very timid around my knees as well the first couple of times. I'm still extremely careful and if I nick myself, that's usually where it is. I've found if I bend my knee so the skin is as tight as it can be over my knee cap, it makes it a lot easier. Once again, congratulations on a job well done.

Congratulations!!!
That first shave feels great doesn't it?
Just remember to watch that point. Dont look at it as wimping out around the knees, just do that area when your ready and you should have a much easier time. One shave down many more to go.

Thank you all kindly!
Without the support of you Gents and Ladies though I don't think I could have done it on my own. I guess I also have to thank whoever gave Spike RAD then got me started!
It does feel great, my neighbour is now jealous as heck but is too chicken to even try a DE, though I have tried............... I haven't given up on her either!
Problem I now have is I CAN'T WAIT TO DO IT AGAIN!!!!!!!

Get a little practice in on yourself, and then introduce her to brush and hot lather...
Shave a small spot on het leg, and let her think on it for a bit...
She'll come around.

Silver did a brilliant job! If she'd let me, I would post a pic of her gorgeous smooth legs...
We were both really impressed by Mama Bear's soap. Even if I had to rebuild lather in my bowl between legs. Garfield wasn't big enough for the lather needed. Sorry she's hanging on to him though. I took care of soap & helped with stretching. She did have some problems with the angle of the blade. Don't we all first time?
A word on the subject of Sharp & Shinies in our house. Straights are their epitome & we have three now. Then two swords Silver's doubleheaded dragon axe, four individual & one matched pair daggers, six pocketknives two Leathermans. RAD is a given, I believe.

Having shaved both my own face and my girlfriends legs, I have a piece of advice to offer on the knees. I have found that using the heel of the razor and short strokes (much the same as how I shave my chin) has yielded positive results. I find it easier to make sure strokes, since I find I can better control the razor.
Since you mentioned that you're going to have a go at Spike's face when you've got a few shaves under your belt, perhaps you should let him have a go at your legs. You might be able to learn from each other by watching and feeling, seeing as you each have experience shaving different body parts.

Thank you for the suggestions. I suppose as he shaves me down south anyway he may as well carry on and do the legs too. I am now determined to do the knees next time too.
Mike I'll try that when the time comes, that lather was part of the reason for my conversion.

I couldn't wait any longer so today I tackled my knees with success. Not BBS by any means but I'm happy. I tried swapping hands too, noticed a difference between the right and left hands.
Will pay more attention to that next time I shave and report back.
