Thank you for your suggestions Lynn & Os! We can not get any sort of antibiotic without a prescription here, drat it. But the calendula & comfrey we can get our paws on. I have seen comfrey in the woods up the road.

I am not sure why, but rash & or bumps have always been a lot more common with south of the border shaves, in my experience.

Amazing......I can't get Solpadiene (Not sure if spelled right, but these are great tablet that go in a glass of water to kill headaches and hangovers only sold in the UK.) over here and you have it over the counter there. I'll take a box of 60 please.........

Have fun,

I hate to say this and know I am going to get hit over the head for it... but I struggled with this for years until I solved the problem.... forever.

Praise God for laser hair removal.

Sue, who ducks and runs......

seriously... really seriously.. this was a thorn in my er, side... and caused me more grief. I can shave anywhere else with no issues, but this area is an issue..... no comments required... lol

and if you are going to give me a hard time for this one... I can make you feel better already.. it hurt like HELLL!

Bear Hugs, Sue

No worries Mama Sue! As I enjoy the BTB shaves I won't be getting the lazer treatment, plus the fact I don't trust Os not to zap me from afar!!

I moved the budding star trek / next gen discussion to the conversation:
Star trek - split from shaving bumps

No more star trek references in this thread please.

Default Witchhazel

If you can get some witchhazel then the bumps should go away. Just apply liberally as an aftershave - it's gonna sting but you'll be bump-free hopefully!

cheers!

=)

I've never done it myself, but I looked into it for my girlfriend a few months ago, and found some information.

Firstly the skin in that area is very sensitive (of course), so it needs to be handled differently then the face or legs (from what I've been reading). In order to minamize bumbs/burn you need to start slow, only shaving a a few times a week, then slowly move up to more and more untill its every day or as often as you'd like to shave the area (though this time period will likely take a long time due only adding more times per week every 2 weeks or so).

Now I've never tryed this myself, so I'm not sure it will work to be honnest, but it might have something to do with the fact that the skin may need time to adjust to it. So if your going all out from the start and shaving every day your skin may not have time to addapt to the increased exfoliation.

Now I'm sure this has been said before but always start the shave with the direction of the hair growth where ever possible. This is a fact haha, as I'm sure many face shavers can attest to. I used to have bumps under my chin as my technique was poor and I didnt shave in the right direction, but as soon as I figured out which direction that was I never saw them again. I also agree very much with the mosturizing it helps for sure in all shaving situations.

Thanks Kevin, it's good to see a man who does his homework.

My skin must be getting ued to the shaves as the bumps are getting less frequent. And I will fully back the use of calendula for an after shave treat. It is very soothing and calming to sensitive areas.

Well I'm not a pro at straight razor shaving yet by any means. But my hubby shaved me below the belt yesterday and afterwards applied vitamin E oil. It worked really well. I had some visible bumps but little to no irritation. Any most of the bumps are all gone today. The vitamin E definately worked for me.

Vaseline Clinical Therapy works really well on the bumps for some inexplicable reason. I came about trying it by accident, and I'm very glad that I did. I usually use a combination of the two (applied at different times) and I haven't had bumps or redness for years.
