Lilith Follows Silver's Lead
I've been meaning to post pics for a while, but circumstances didn't permit until late last week, when I handed my precious DSLR to the boyfriend and asked him to capture my shaving routine.
The full photoset is here on Flickr, but here are some highlights:
mmm, lather:
let the shaving begin:
watch the knee:
and finally, the thigh:
Tadaa!

I like the duck... nice touch - we have a whole family in our bathroom wandering from the sink to the bath...
BTW happy to see that your leg shaving went nice and smooth without pouring blood... - wink to Silver...

Congrats on the shave!
You seem to have a much better lather than Silver. I think she is going to get some help with that.
Thanks for sharing your pics. Maybe, I can get my wife interested enough to let me shave her legs. So far, while she expresses interest in my hobby (I keep telling myself it is not an obsession), she does not want to have a very sharp blade wielded on her legs in any way shape or form.

This is the first such thread without blood letting or an apologetic husband. Sweet.

At first I thought you were talking about the razors, but then I noticed that little guy sitting on the tub and suddenly your comment made much more sense.
Lilith: Thanks for sharing. I really like how you've developed your grip and took the time to explain why you hold the razor how you do. That should be very helpful for others.

Thankyou Mi'Lady Sass Monster!
Interesting grip you have on the blade there. It looks like it gives you a great deal of control. On fact I may try it on my next facial shave

Awesome photos Lilith, thanks for sharing them and describing your technique.
Hate you for the fact you have a corner tub though! We also have a collection of colour changing Ducks that belong to the small person, I just de-cluttered our shoe box bathroom before I started.
I'll admit I was fretting about posting photos of my tree trunks as I had the feeling you and Pearl both had nice slim legs.

Thanks for the comments, everyone! The tub and duck belong to the boyfriend... the bathroom at my place is too small and cluttered to yield decent pictures. I'm glad y'all appreciate the grip description. It changes a little depending on the razor: the tang on my Harner is a bit short, so the index finger moves closer to the toe along the spine, and the scales are really light, so the index-thumb combo is enough to hold the angle; with the Wapi, I lean more on the ring finger, since the stainless scales are so heavy, and use more of the arm to drive, rather than just wrist movement with the lighter razors.
As for the blood, it took me about a dozen shaves before I stopped cutting myself all the time. The most common areas for a nick were the back of the ankle and the front of the knee. I started being more careful in that area and getting more comfortable with my technique, and now: no nicks! (Quick! Where's some wood I can knock on??!)

Nice job, and with a spike too! I cleaned up my, ahem, trail with a spike once. Bad choice.

(Where is the clapping smiley face symbol?!)
Fantastic! Very impressive Lilith!
A few curiousity questions....
- About what style and size blade do you find works best for that sort of dexterous shaving?
(With more turns and blind spots, I wonder if a smaller width blade is better, and a spike point is too apt to nick)
- Have you tried that with the "Japanese" straight razors?
(I've found them to be easier to shave around jaw lines and such on the face, and can be maneuvered (sp?) easily by turning the handle with the thumb and forefinger....no handle to worry about and throw off the balance)
- Have you tried Mamma Bears shave sticks?
(My wife swears by them for shaving her legs....)
Great job!

My three razors are all pretty close to 4/8, so I can't really compare other sizes. For points, I'm equally fond of the spikes and the rounds. I've never nicked myself with the point of a blade... it's always been careless slices in the middle.

I haven't yet, but they do interest me.

My 16 yr old niece shaved her legs with a straight for the first time last week. She loved it and didn't get a nick. She used my 7/8 Henkels Friodur and some Mama Bear's shaving soap
