Default EyeClops and a Straight Razor Edge

(I moved this from the General forum as this seemed like a more appropriate place.)

How many of your kids got an EyeClops for Christmas?

This is pretty cool. My grandkids finally got out their EyeClops and started playing with it.

First of all it is: (This is from the EyeClops webpage)
EyeClops is the handheld Bionic eye that plugs into your TV. Simply point the EyeClops at virtually any object and see it magnified 200 times on your TV. Common everyday objects appear extraordinary. Table salt looks like blocks of ice. Fine hair looks like twisted rope. Even your own skin appears alien! Take an eye popping peak at the world around you with the EyeClops Bionic Eye.

I saw them playing with it and immediately picked up a razor that I had been honing and placed the edge over the lighted eye on this thing and adjusted the focus and low and behold there was the edge of my razor on the TV as clear as you would want and in color. This was really cool and it was magnified 200 times.

This device runs around $50 which is a bit expensive for looking at edges but none the less pretty cool.

For what it's worth I just thought that I would pass this on.

Here is the link to the EyeClops if you are interested:

That is, indeed, pretty cool. Imagine how your blade edge would look displayed on a 46" flat screen HD TV!

Actually it was on a 46" flat screen HD T.V.........and yes it was pretty cool. You could see the striations and everything.

Super! Almost any magnifier is better than none. The Eyeclops looks like it might just work for straight razor edge assessment.

TO THE NEWBIES: Get a magnifier!!! Perhaps this one, perhaps the RadioShack unit, or even a loupe... ideally about 50x - 100x magnification. A decent magnifier can help make learning a straight razor MUCH easier!

The flip side. . . a 52" inch screen shows the true horror of a novice honing job. The Eyeclops is cool though, we discovered that the "whole wheat" flour in the cupboard was actually white flour enriched with tasty insectile protein bites.
