Default review of finish your own razor box

Review of the finish your own razor boxes.

Posted this in a thread earlier and realized I should probably post here as well! When Tim (old blades) first posted this thread I told him I would be happy to try one of the boxes and post a review on how well it was constructed and how hard it was to assemble. So here goes!
I decided to do the kit so that I could get a feel for how the everything was put together rather that the all ready assembled box. When I received the kit it came well packaged and everything was included. This was a prototype and as of now the hardware has not been decided on so the pictures do not show hardware The Lowes here did not have anything small enough and while I have some on order I did not want to wait forever to let you guys know about this great kit. I opened the package and pulled everything out. The first thing I noticed was that all the pieces were well cut and looked sturdy. The wood was attractive with no blemishes. This box was the first one so Old Blades suggested we try some thing so he laser etched my initials on the lid with I thought really looked great! After opening everything I did a dry assembly to see how much sanding would be needed to prep the wood and was pleasantly surprised to find that everything fit together like a glove. the finger joints fit snug and really needed little to no sanding. The box was disassembled and all the pieces were stained with gun stock stain. After the stain had dried everything was lightly sanded with 1000 grit sand paper and assembled using wood glue and set aside to dry. I held everything together using rubber bands till the glue dried. after everything was completely dry I used 8 coats of true oil gun stock finish to finish the box.
I have to tell you guys for a do it yourself kit this really was a snap. It required no hand tools very little space I did everything right on my desk and anyone who can use a straight razor can easily do this project.
1. For ease of assembly I would rate this kit a 10!
2. for looks I would rate this kit a 10!
3. overall you cant miss if you use it. you can create a kit that is uniquely yours as you decide on the finish the stain and the hardware.
Thank Old Blades for letting me try this it was a lot of fun and I will enjoy this box for years to come!!!

One of these days in your travels, a guy is going to show you a brand-new deck of cards on which the seal is not yet broken. Then this guy is going to offer to bet you that he can make the jack of spades jump out of this brand-new deck of cards and squirt cider in your ear. But, son, do not accept this bet, because as sure as you stand there, you're going to wind up with an ear full of cider.
