Well, just like few other members proud owners of a Georgia Pottery Scuttle, it is my turn. I opened a package today that made me smile big time and for good reasons. I wanted one, I ordered one, I waited for one and finally I got one. Hand thrown, from one of the last few batches made this way before going "industrial", how lucky I have been.
I could not resist and try it, so here is my personal perception of the use of it and my comments. First, I never used a scuttle before, so I cannot compare with other makers/models available on the market today, but compare it against "the" regular bowl I have been using.
To be as objective as possible I need to explain the process that I do use to prepare a lather. I use a small Merkur brush (it suits me fine) soaked in hot water in a chrome bowl, over the time frame of the shower, few drops of hot water into the hard soap shaving bowl, tonight Colleen's Lavander............. shower time.
Once dried-up (me) I gently squeeze the excess water off the brush and start working the hard soap, transferring the lather to the empty chrome bowl, so on so forth until the lather gets pretty dry, I then add a small dab of Brave Soldier Shaving Cream and bring all together in my little chrome bowl and build, build, build. I turn the little chrome bowl upside down under the hot water to bring back the temp, another quick going at it and it's ready for the face.
Now time for the scuttle, and how I used it. The brush was set in hot water in the scuttle waiting for me to get out of the shower. I went for the usual process except that the scuttle replaced the little chrome bowl, once the lather has been build up, I dumped the water and replaced it by some fresh hot water. I have to say that the lip of the filler hole is just right, it is not difficult to fill up without the water getting in the bowl spoiling the lather, and I have done so several time over the course of the shave. The lip works great during transfer from the brush to the scuttle, nice angle.
One thing I have to say is that the ridges inside the cup will build you lather, and build and build and build, no joke. I painted my face 6 or 7 time tonight just for the pleasure to use the lather produced in this scuttle, and if you think you're done because it's now dry, think again and just put few drops of hot water in it, you will generate enough lather to shave ................... a dog.
I strongly believe that I use some good shaving soap and shaving cream, but those little ridges in the scuttle add to the mechanic of it in an unexpected way (to my opinion), but when you think of it, they are just right. After all is done and cleaned, the scuttle was still barely warm to the touch. The least I can say is that I am VERY HAPPY with it.
The motif on my scuttle is dragonfly, the base color is kind of very light blue, give it a touch of "antique" if I can say.
This is going to be a very long relationship, I promise you that. This one is mine, all mine.

RMV....beautiful scuttle. Those of us who got the pre-mold scuttles are a lucky bunch indeed. However, from talking to the guys at Georgetown Pottery, the new scuttles will look an awful lot like yours.

I got mine in the hamada purple scheme....didn't realize they could paint the designs on it. So, yours is the first I've seen with "drawings"

I really like them all, any presentation from them is really nice, all of them.
I just wanted something different, with a touch of "antique", I asked for fish, but the subject is so small that they could not do it, so I picked the second choice, and to my taste, it came out really nice. Hopefully this will open the door to many other choices. Thank you for the comments, it is appreciated.

I love the design of yours. I have had mine maybe a week now and I love it. Can't wait until I get my new burl Dan Capshaw brush to replace my CSV $5 boar bristle.

I received my GP scuttle last week. The bowl seems to be much larger than the moss scuttles. Is this good or bad? I don't know. The moss scuttles have a smaller bowl, but they hold a lot of water.

With the GP scuttle, I can use a larger brush and whip up a huge amount of lather. To make up for the decreased water capacity, I find that using hot water from a kettle works well.

Either way, the moss and GP scuttles keep my lather warm the whole time I am shaving. Plus the glaze on the GP scuttles is *nice*.

I'm glad that there is enough interest for these scuttles to be in production!

I think I paid $49 shipped, just give them a call, I know the web is easier but picking up the phone isn't all that hard.

Well, it's time for my first post. After looking at this thread, I ordered up one of these GP scuttles in blue oribe and purple. I figure I'll break it in with one of the soaps I ordered from The Gentleman's Quarter. I'll give a follow up later after I give the scuttle a try.
